Weekend Roundup: Memorial Day Edition

First, HogsHaven would be remiss if we didn't recognize that today is Memorial Day.  Today is a day to remember the military men and women who have died while serving the United States.  It's also a day to grill up some hamburgers (HH has no tolerance for vegetarians on this patriotic occasion), to spend time with family, to arbitrarily shorten the workweek, and most importantly...

to watch Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals!  I don't know about you guys, but I'll be glued to my TV tonight.  I love professional hockey, and I absolutely live for playoff hockey.  The finals feature the Anaheim (no longer Mighty) Ducks versus the the Ottawa Senators.  I'm going to go out on a limb and say Skin Patrol won't care if I do this...

HogsHaven is officially backing the Ducks, for the following reasons:

  • USA vs. Canada - Go, America, go!

  • I'm moving to Las Vegas in the Fall, and the closest NHL franchise to Sin City is - you guessed it - Anaheim!  I will, of course, continue to be a Caps fan, through and through.

  • Ottawa losing in the finals would keep my favorite streak in all professional sport alive, the "losing city" streak:
"In an uncanny "losing streak," a different city has lost the Stanley Cup final in each of the last 17 consecutive seasons. This streak began in 1989 with Montreal, then Boston, Minnesota, Chicago, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Detroit, Florida, Philadelphia, Washington, Buffalo, Dallas, New Jersey, Carolina, Anaheim, Calgary, and finally Edmonton in 2006. The streak for different franchises has continued only 14 years, since the 1991 losers, the Minnesota North Stars, are the same franchise as the Dallas Stars."

So, I'm entirely serious about this.  Let's all watch, so we'll be able to talk about something other than Clinton Portis and puppies. (OK, fine, there's also the Miss Universe pageant.)
