It is unfortunate, and I don't say that with tongue-in-cheek because I really don't root for injuries, that Laveranues Coles might not play this Sunday:
Coles is known for his toughness, but concussions are a hot-button issue in the NFL and the mere fact that Mangini admitted it was a concussion - in a conference call with the Washington D.C. media - should speak volumes.
And it's especially troubling for the NFL and talking heads around the league, since this Coles vs. his former team is precisely the kind of contrived story line that gets run with ad nauseum. Creating bad faith where there isn't any is just one of the many services you pay the National Football League for, though one I would happily waive.
To Coles I say keep your nogging safe and get well soon. To the NFL I say tough break on a missed opportunity. And to the Redskins defense I say, you better take advantage of all this good luck; the Jets were a questionable team with Pennington and Coles starting, now they're looking like lambs to the slaughter.
