Carlos Rogers out for the season

Per the Official Site:

Rogers underwent a series of tests on his right knee on Monday. He was diagnosed with tears in his MCL and ACL in the knee, and he will require season-ending knee surgery.

"We have bad news on Carlos," Joe Gibbs said during his Monday press conference. "The doctors are still analyzing it, but it looks like it's something that would keep him out for the rest of the season."

This is all kinds of bad for a number of reasons. Last year the catalyst for a good defense turning bad was an injured secondary that didn't have the depth to make it work. Fortunately, we will weather this storm with LaRon Landry in place of Adam Archuleta, a much improved linebacking unit, and a defensive line that is playing much better football than a year ago (generally speaking, though they weren't very good at all yesterday). We also have Fred Smoot instead of Kenny Wright or Mike Rumph, though Smoot has been dealing with injuries as well.

Shawn Springs remaining healthy has now become a crisis averting necessity. Behind him would be David Macklin and Leigh "Randy Moss touched me inappropriately" Torrence. Pierson Prioleau has been playing a lot of cornerback as well when we go to the nickel, I believe. I think I read that at like Post Game Heroes. Right?

This isn't good news for anyone, but Byron Westbrook could be the beneficiary of a bump from the practice squad to the roster once the team puts Rogers on Injured Reserve. Once there he'll join Nehemiah Broughton, Jon Jansen, Ross Tucker, Tyler Ecker, Mike Espy, and Steven Harris. It's been that kind of year.
