Good #2, Price is not bad
Compared to 2007 salary numbers 3M per year places Collins with these quarterbacks...who got ~3M in 2007: Brunell, Mark, Carr, David, Culpepper, Daunte Simms, Chris Losman, J.P.
A good contract for a PROVEN back-up quarter back but not overspending.
One note on Collins: He came into the league in 1995 with Buffalo behind Jim Kelly. Started for Buffalo in 1997 under Offensive coordinator Dan Henning...Maybe Collins wasn't all about Saunders as this provides a Gibbs and redskins connection too.

The Headcoach has the answer...
"I don't want Jason Campbell to feel like, 'Oh my gosh, if I make one mistake, I'm going to be pulled,''' Zorn said during the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. "That's not the way to go into this. That's not the way to go into any camp and it's not the way to go into any football season.''

3rd quarter was given a contract
I realize he was cut and picked back-up when Campbell was hurt but he was not signed to a one year deal, he was given a three year deal, meaning he is signed for 2008 and 2009.
12/16/2007: Signed a three-year, $1.2 million contract.
I don't think Brunell will return, even a minimum: unless the Redskins are going to carry 4 QBs or if not carry then PAY 4 QBs

Reading Coach Zorn and Vinny's comments...
The Canadian Press
New coach Jim Zorn has made it clear that Jason Campbell will be the starter next season, but he strongly courted Collins to come back as a No. 2. Zorn made another appeal Thursday, over lunch while visiting Collins in Massachusetts.
"Jim told him the first time he talked to him, 'If there's a starting job out there, go get it,"' Cerrato said. "But I think what was out there and what he discovered was all No. 2 jobs. And I think he enjoyed his time here. That's why he came back."
It sounds like Collins could have easily gone to another team, but he liked the chemistry and an item hidden in the Post report he likes the Redskins chances for the post season better than the Rams or Jaguars.
Brunell is a free agent after voiding the remainder of his contract, and Cerrato said the Redskins would turn elsewhere for a No. 3 quarterback. "We'll be looking for a young quarterback in the draft," Cerrato said. The book is closed on Brunell.
With the Redskins mostly seeking depth, Snyder and Cerrato plan to wait out the initial flurry of signings to make their move.
"The money is quite high at most positions, so we're waiting for the market to come back a little bit," Cerrato said. "I think we're being smart, not just running out there throwing money around to throw money around."Yes! this was stated by the Redskins

Or...
They're like a college kid who knows his debit card is all but maxed out; they're preaching fiscal responsibility but you know that if they find a new pair of shoes they just can't do without, they'll take the overdraft fee.

Then again...
High priced Free Agents, with no connections with the Redskins are not worth spending high dollars on and with that in mind the need for LESS pro scouts.
The Redskins have released pro scout Terry Ray from the organization
