Portis to Port?

I read on FanNation's Truth and rumors site that CP has admitted that this may be his last season in Washington

Star-divide

I dunno if this is old news, or is news.  But I personally never cared for Portis anyways.  I cheered for success, because it was the Skin's success.  And tendonitis is a recurring problem-i know for certain, because I have it in both elbows.  I won't shed a tear if Portis leaves after this season, unless we are not properly compensated.  I hope that CP returns to 1500-yard form...with 15 TDs to match.  Though I think Betts can do it for less.

By the by, I may be dilusional, but I think Brandon LLoyd will actually be competent this year...lets say 44 catches for 623 yards and 5 TD's.  Cooley will have a better year, still.

i dont know...
Portis has a bunch of years left on his contract and unless he really has a down year I don't see him going anywhere. He's only 25!

Not so fast, Clinton
We traded Champ because we wanted a long-term solution at runningback.

Wow.
This is definitely news, but I don't know why Clinton would have some unique insight on his future outside of Washington. That decision is largely up to the Washington Redskins, as we're the ones who made him one of the most lucrative running backs in the NFL and he is under contract with us.

He Has what?
4 years left?  I'm sure the bonus hit would hurt.  I'm concerned that despite him being 25/26, whatever, he's already played 5 seasons.  with a relatively small frame for the amount of punishment he takes, his body is more like a 28/29 year old running backs'.  I know Ladell has seen an injury or two, and he'll cough up the ball once and again.  Fumble problems can be corrected with coaching-see Tiki Barber.  If CP starts 12 games this year, I'll be midly surprised...15 or let alone 16, I'll be shocked.  If HOF Coach Gibbs sticks around another season, i think CP will too.  But if he has a mediocre season, his trade value becomes questionable (especially thanks to a "healthy" contract, pun somewhat intended.)  If The Chin comes to Washinton, CP might be on the way out...just fantasizing about Cowher on the sidelines again...this time for us.

Carries
I don't agree that carries really limit a player.

Portis had 440 carries in college and 1385 in the NFL by the age of 25
Emmitt Smith had 700 in college and 1630 in the NFL by the age of 25.

Portis is listed at 5'11" 223.
Smith is listed at 5'10" 216.

Smith carried the ball 2279 times after he was 25.

I understand that Portis has knee tendinitis and that he's carried the ball a lot, but that doesn't mean his body is at the age of 28/29 and it doesn't mean we should consider getting rid of him for a guy who really is 28 and has had his own knee issues in the past.

223?
What?  Portis barely hit 220 season before last, then slimmed down to about 210 last season.  I have no idea what he's looking like this season, but I imaine with all of his injuries, he has been somewhat limited in strength training as of late.  I'm glad the team rested him last night, as I'm looking forward to what a somewhat healthy Portis will do to an aging, but still very capable Dolphins D.  I have respect for Emmit Smith, as he continued to run (even into people) on a broken leg those many years ago.  I still remember parts of that game, but that's as gutsy a performance as you'll see on the NFL in recent memory.  Smith is also very fortunate, in terms of his durabilty.  That's starting to become an issue for CP.  But I wish him God's Speed-he'll need it to avoid some punishment.

I believe Football Outsiders
did the number crunching and determined a per season amount that very typically resulted in future injuries; I think anything over 400 carries is detrimental to a player's health statistically.
