Hogs Haven selects Jamaal Anderson

With the #6 pick in the SportsBlog Nation Mock Draft, the Washington Redskins select Defensive End Jamaal Anderson out of Arkansas.

The pick itself was a no-brainer given the Redskins needs and who was available. It was always (in my mind) a decision betwix and between Anderson and Gaines Adams. With Adams off the board (he went to Detroit), I default to Jamaal Anderson. I like Amobi Okoye at DT, though I feel more comfortable in the middle of our Defensive Line given the progress of Kedric Golston and, to a lesser extent, Anthony Montgomery. There's at least a partial youth movement there as Golston semi-replaced Joe Salave'a in 2006. Alan Branch's plummeting stock was enough to scare me away from choosing him.

Really what I wanted was to trade down and acquire some extra day one draft picks, as the Redskins are short a 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounders. Unfortunately, no serious offers were presented for the #6 pick and thus I went with need. I couldn't have asked for a better situation as both Brady Quinn and Adrian Peterson fell to me here, though apparently no one else wanted to move up to snag them. I hope the real Redskins have better luck trading down.

Feel free to criticize the move in the comments section, though know I did everything possible to get the pick traded down.

Daily Norseman is on the clock.

I agree with this pick
The old saying if its not broke then dont fix it(i.e.adding briggs to this team)

Same goes for the other way around if its broke then fix it!We need a DE so lets not get stupid and if we cant trade down for more picks we should just take the top DE available

All things considered...
great selection.

A trade would have been better but there has to be someone willing, and drafting BQ or AP for trade bait would be a risky proposition.

If getting Jamaal Anderson is the third or fourth best thing that could happen, then the team is in good shape.
