Just a quick FYI that ESPN is claiming Wade Phillips as the new Dallas Cowboys Coach. Hat Tip: Blogging the Boys.

For me this was a kind of worst of all possible scenarios. I was hoping for either Norval Turner or else someone with much less coaching experience (particularly with the 3-4). Also, Wade Phillips was the favorite of Grizz over at BTB, and no one knows the Cowboys (or cares about them as much) better than Grizz. If he wanted Wade Phillips as his head coach, you can bet we didn't.

I'm very scared
After all, Wade brings an illustrious history of three failed former shots at being a head coach, his impressive zero playoff wins in those stops, and his awesome decision making capability(see inserting Rob Johnson over Flutie in the playoffs...)!

To his credit...
he has a winning record as a Head Coach. Cannot say that about Norval.

He always takes over from good coaches
Many would say that his one stop where he had a winning record, Buffalo, was done with what was left of Levy's players.

I would like to say...
that I kinda almost predicted this hiring, but I won't be that bold.

I think he's the perfect coach for Jones... mostly because he isn't a long-term choice and would be more easily shown the door in favor of Jason Garrett in the new stadium.  This also allows Garrett control of the offense, and Romo the chance to get accustomed to one system to sustain his career in Dallas, instead of Norval's system until Garrett is ready.

His (Wade's) experience and success with the 3-4 should also play heavily in the decision.  He is used to replacing great coaches (Dan Reeves twice, Marv Levy, Bum Phillips), staying a short time and getting replaced by the "next hot thing" (both Jim Moras, Gregg Williams, Mike Shanahan).  

Truth be told, this is almost a perfect fit for Jones.  He has his cake (Garrett) and gets to eat it too (2008-ish) while still keeping the team in competant hands.
