Suisham is Your Kicker and New Poll

Results from the last poll:

Who should be the Redskins 2007 kicker?
Shaun Suisham    37 votes - 48 %
John Hall    4 votes - 5 %
Some combination of both    0 votes - 0 %
Someone else (post below)    4 votes - 5 %
Open competition    6 votes - 7 %
Art Monk should be in the HoF    25 votes - 32 %
So while many of you -- and I don't blame you in the least -- decided to side step the question to support Art Monk, the majority of the rest of you agreed that Suisham is the future leg of Your Washington Redskins. I like that.

John Hall somehow picked up some votes despite the fact that he's going to get cut. His 2M 2007 cap hit is not protected by a paltry 465k in remaining guaranteed money. This should also explain why a combination of kickers was so unpopular.

Some of you voted for other, though I suspect that was started by Curly R Ben Folsom's nostalgic suggestiong to bring back Chip Lohmiller. In any event, Suisham wins.

New Poll! Hail Redskins Mock Draft Database has pretty much narrowed down the Redskins #6 pick to four players. And while I would love for the 'Skins to trade down I just don't know if it will happen.

The four players in question are DTs Alan Branch (Michigan) and Amobi Okoye (Louisville) and DEs Gaines Adams (Clemson) and Jamaal Anderson (Arkansas). I hope to have some inside-ish info on these guys from College Bloggers who might know more about than I do -- which is to say more than nothing at all -- later this week.

So the question is, if you had to pick one of those guys with the #6 pick, who would it be? Post why you voted or additional comments below.

Poll
Which of these four would you take at #6
Michigan DT Alan Branch
28 votes
Louisville DT Amobi Okoye
8 votes
Clemson DE Gaines Adams
26 votes
Arkansas DE Jamaal Anderson
26 votes

I wish
we needed a DT but we dont I think Branch is the best d line player available with all things being equal

However I think its a toss up between adams and anderson    I do hear from a good percenatge of sites that adams is not a complete player  but Im not sure I believe that     both of these guys look stellar on film

My guess here is that the combine will probably tip the scales for one of these two guys if we decided to take one of them.

Other than Okoye...
the other 3 will produce right away at the NFL level.

I voted for Anderson because I don't think Branch makes it to #6.  But if he did, and there isn't a trade that makes sense, I'd have to take a long hard look at Branch.

He seems to be the type of DT that you put in the middle for the next 10-12 years and worry about other things on the defense.  I'm thinking a Warren Sapp type, that takes on the double team, clogs the middle, and still gets pressure.  With Golston next to him, that could be a very potent middle of the defense for years to come.

Plus, every year there's at least one or two good, if not great, defensive end/pass rushers that come out.  Last year, Mark Anderson for the Bears.  Year before that Merriman for SD.

If he's at #6, I think I might not be able to pass him up.

Good point
about there always being DEs. That position seems to fair pretty well every draft.

I voted for Anderson, though it was really a crap shoot between him and Gaines Adams. I really want a DE, so it came down to one of those two.

From what I've seen from the two DEs...
which is mostly 2 games each in 2006, plus the never-ending loop of highlights on ESPN, is that Adams seems to be the best pass rusher right now and Anderson the best overall player right now.

I am not Mel Kiper, but if I had to guess which guy makes a bigger impact for longer in the NFL, I'd go with Anderson.  He's much more athletic (again, in my own personal, not-so-expert view) and has the ability to run down plays from behind.  He plays the run well and I think with Daniels and Carter as teachers, he can learn to become a top tier pass rusher.

This is not to slight Adams, who very well could be this draft's Mark Anderson, Dwight Freeney, Merriman guy.

But he could also be this year's Mario.
