Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

Scared to Death

What will happen when Jason Campbell is finally healthy?

Star-divide

Will he go on to lead the skins to a Super Bowl victory, consequently earning a sponsorship deal to do commercials for Campbell's chunky soup?  No, he won't.  He will run the boat ashore, or into a reef.  I was concerned when he wasn't placed on IR, I'm even more concerned that after our 30-22 victory over the 'boys this week, removing Collins would surely be folly.  Suddenly, I'm expecting the skins to win a game or two in the playoffs.  the roster says we are more than capable, the play calling is improved...dare I say we are a contender?

What happened to...
not losing your spot to injury?  Campbell is the QB for this team.  I'm not trying to take anything away from Collins, as he's done an amazing job, but Campbell is the QB.

That being said, I would sit JC until he is 100% healthy, even if it means sitting him an extra week.  There is no need to rush him back and expose the knee to another injury.

At the time JC went down, this team wasn't playing like it is now.  The defense wasn't hitting like they are now.  The offense wasn't running the ball like they are now.  To answer your quesion, the way they're playing now, yes the Skins are contenders.

You gotta make the dance, then anything can happen.

I don't even think he'll play
How can Gibbs bench Todd Collins after this end of the season? Collins has stepped up huge in must-win situations. I think we have to keep him playing for as long as we can, and Campbell should be the backup if he is even able to return at any point.

The unfortunate part about our potential playoff hopes is this: we have to play every single game on the road. This team has been playing every single week since week 3 and has got to be feeling tired, not to mention banged up (but recent injuries to what, half our starters have validated that for everyone).

Since the only way we get in the playoffs is as a #6 seed, we would need to go through Seattle, then Dallas, then Green Bay, if we manage to get in the playoffs and stay afloat for some of it. I think we have the coaching, finally, and we definitely have the defense. We are the most dangerous team in the NFL right now, and I think we will beat Dallas and would certainly have a shot if we make it to Seattle.

Back to my original point, though. We need a guy like Collins, who is so steady and has made hardly any mistakes with the football, to lead us in the playoffs. We finally look like a true Joe Gibbs team -- a QB who isn't necessarily a great one, but certainly one who is smart, a franchise RB carrying the fate of the team, a strong, resilient offensive line and an aggressive defense that keeps us in the game and forces turnovers. That is a Joe Gibbs team, and a winning team. I think if we continue to play at the level we played in Minnesota and New York, we could go farther than people would have ever thought.

If
Campbell is 100% healthy, and he says it and the doctors say it, you have to play him. It's not just the playoffs in question, but what kind of message would you be sending to your guy if he's healthy and lost his spot due to injury? He needs to know he is the guy no matter what. If we get it in his mind that his job is in jeopardy at all in upcoming years, he's going to be looking over his shoulder and will never realize his full potential. Forget these playoffs, even if Collins is playing better, the 2008 and 2009 Redskins need him to play now if he can more than this team does.

Dude
There is no question Campbell is "the guy". Todd Collins is a 36-year-old backup. We don't need to prove to him that he is our QB by playing him in a game where Todd would be the better quarterback. Our obligation is not to show Campbell that he is the guy, our obligation is to win football games. Jason is 10 years younger -- he is the QB of the future and the entire NFL knows it. Next year, there's no question he's the starter, but if Todd Collins continues to play at such a high level, why would you take him out? We want to WIN... so put in the better QB. What would have happened if Bledsoe got put in instead of Tom Brady when he got healthy?

The Pats
would still suck, that's what.

Nonetheless, Campbell can play all he wants NEXT YEAR.  the offense has played better because they have an on-field coach on offense for the first time in a long time.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This is a game of win now...what have you done for me lately?  Lately, JC threw game-ending interceptions until he was mercifully injured.  Now, we can contend with any NFC team (such as that is).  The defense is more aggressive and playing top-tier right now, but if the team falls behind early, then there is a high chance they will revert to a conservative cover 2.  Our front four is over-acheiving right now, but with an extra linebacker charging in, turnovers are bound to be forced.

No one is holding their breath when Collins drop back to pass...if I want suspense, I can watch soap operas with the Old Lady.

Thank you, Mr. Collins.  30-21 over the boys, yeeee-haaaaw!

This is a tough question
and one worthy of its own poll. I'm going to do some thought on this and try and get a post about it before the playoffs start.

If there is any question about how Jason feels, you sit him. Todd Collins is playing well enough now and has won enough must win games (on the road) to earn the spot until it is absolutely time to return to Campbell.

Jasons not ready
to lead a team in the playoffs. He's a good QB, but i would hate to see him throw another interception at the end of the game when the pressure's on. Todd Collins is playing better football than Jason was when he got injured. Plus it seems like he earned the right to lead the team during the playoofs. Jason can have his shot next year, but for now, I say Collins for this year.

I cannot disagree
with any of this. This is kind of how I feel right now.
