Who's to blame for the Phillies' struggles? Bar-right-arrows

New Poll: We've got his one in the bag

First, the old news:
Who has pleasently surprised you most thus far in the young season?
Defense       45 votes - 34 %
Jason Campbell       45 votes - 34 %
Antwaan Randle El       25 votes - 19 %
Offensive Line       6 votes - 4 %
Derrick Frost       5 votes - 3 %
Mike Sellers       5 votes - 3 %
Other       0 votes - 0 %

A split decision on top with both Jason Campbell and the Defense earning your praise. I think they're both deserving as JC looks much more polished than he did last year and the defense looks, well, like an actual defense. Given our general woes on the offensive side of the ball, and also that JC wasn't one of the worst QBs in the league last year but our D was one of the worst at their job, I'll split the tie with another vote for the Fense of D.

Antwaan came in at 3rd below those two unsurprisingly. He's played outstanding football and has more than earned the #2 receiver spot. I was very skeptical of his ability to do so at the end of last season and going into this season. The offensive line got votes prior to being absolutely decimated to injuries, I'm assuming. Mike Sellers surprises no one because we all know what a monster he is, and Derrick Frost looked good up until very recently. No others?

New Poll: What are the odds of us beating the New England Patriots this week? Everyone and their mother's mother has us getting squished by the Pats. Honestly, this is the least confident I've been of an impending win since ever, although I'll still pick the 'Skins because nothing I do depends on credibility or objectivity. Also feel free to use the comments section as your own sounding board on how we can make lightning strike with a W. Poll below.

How about us spreading their defense out
I'd like to see 4 and 5 sets at times, lets tell JC to put BL in some vunerable positions so he gets creamed. I'd like to see him on IR, hes wasting space. This would help ease the probable pain thats coming with this game.

Lets throw a little more vertical.

Maybe 1 or 2 minor gadget plays that dont take 20 seconds to materialize, ya know like vertical instead of horizontal.

As SP said were going to need our Special teams to make a play at some point.

We need our best D to show up and finally....

lets turn Campbell loose on Sunday and if he makes some turnovers......OH WELL. Just cant deal with the same stuff thats been going on since really the second half of the giants game.

Totally agree.
What JC does (relatively) better than his peers and others is throw a great deep ball. We cannot be afraid to take some chances on offense against a defense and a team as good as the Patriots. If a win exists in our future, it won't be on running the ball on 1st and 2nd down every play. We need to play to JC's strengths (which will be tested by our hurt o-line and their defense), namely the deep ball. There needs to be a Santana Moss or an ARE streaking down the field on every play, and if the protection is there the coaches need to tell JC not to be afraid to air it out.

Less than confident
But i am so very tempted to bet that massive spread.  i don't gamble, but i want to make some money off of 17 points over the #4 defense and a (rather average) offense.  Looking at the Pat's schedule, we have the best defense they may face all year (unless the chargers suddenly go wade phillipesque.) and our offense...well, it may manage 17 points.  we will limit the pats to there lowest point total of the season (Pats have scored at least 32 points everygame) at i'd guesstimate 27, and we'll still have a little room to play.  we can win the game if we can get pressure on Brady.  playing coverage against that team is worse than suicide.  Semo-pro QB's can complete  25 of 35 for 310 yards and 3 TDs if you don't put presuure on them.  And for the love of God Joe, let Al go crazy on offense this week...ball control won't work, we must score.
