Jason Campbell and the Redskins distinguished

Per the Official Site:

Redskins' quarterback Jason Campbell has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Redskins 34-3 victory over the Detroit Lions at FedExField last Sunday.

It is Campbell's first honor as NFC Offensive Player of the Week. The Lions game marked only the 11th start of Campbell's career.

Of course Campbell went on to say all the right things how he's just looking towards next week, though he's appreciative of being honored. Also:
Redskins' defensive end Andre Carter was also nominated as NFC Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded eight tackles, two sacks, one safety and four quarterback hurries against the Lions.
I'm assuming the lack of preemptive victory means he didn't win, though he had a helluva game as well. It is apparent now that Andre Carter's tear at the end of last season was just the beginning of his inevitable tear over the course of multiple seasons as a Redskin, which will cause tears in opposing quarterbacks.

Back to Campbell, I like that the young man is grounded, but how great would it have been if he's just straight up said "What of it, 'yotch? It goes Jason Campbell and then Tom Brady this week. Suck it." And then perhaps rubbed his mustache for effect. That would have made my day. Oh well, there's something to be said for character and moral fiber, so I'll concede the point.

The Redskins look like a playoff team, at least according to ESPN's Power Ranking:

8 (13) Redskins 3-1-0 The 144 yards allowed to Detroit was the lowest total given up by a Redskins defense in 15 years. It helped that Washington enjoyed a nearly 10-minute edge in time of possession.
8 is their current ranking, up from 13 which is really on the bubble for playoffs. A more reliable metric at Football Outsiders does us even better, at seventh. We have the 16th highest offensive DVOA but are 4th on defense. It has not escaped my attention that our playoff odds continue to rise. We are now better than a coin flip to make the post season and are over 36% to win an NFC wild card spot (better than any other NFC team).

Briefly, also over at Football Outsiders is a Michael David Smith post "Every Play Counts: The Redskins' D" that deserves its own post here, which will be up shortly. Original article here.

Winning feels really good.
