Red Snapper is back and Mark Brunell has shoulder surgery

In 1989 the cinematic masterpiece UHF forever changed my life. It isn't often that I get to quote UHF because most people haven't actually seen it and many that did think it is a stupid movie. Well those people are stupid. But yesterday (hat tip: Redskin Report) the Washington Redskins resigned long-snapper extraordinaire Ethan Albright -- also known as the Red Snapper (for his bright red hair). Hogs Haven presents great moments in Cinematic History:

[On the game show, "Wheel of Fish", Phyllis Weaver has just spun the wheel and landed on a red snapper]
Kuni: Ahhh, a red snapper. Mmmmm, very tasty. Okay, Weaver, listen carefully. You can hold on to your red snapper...
[Hiro-San emerges, carrying a table with a box]
Kuni: ...or you can go for what's in the box that Hiro-San is bringing down the aisle right now! What's it gonna be?
[Phyllis Weaver decides between the Red Snapper and the box. The audience points to the box]
Phyllis Weaver: I'll take the box. The box!
[the audience applauded]
Kuni: You took the box? Let's see what's in the box!
[Hiro-san opened the box, and the audience gasps in silence]
Kuni: Nothing! Absolutely nothing! STUPID! You're so STU-PIIIIIIIIIIID!

And in a way this is analagous to the Washington Redskins. Rather than sticking with what we've got, a delicious Red Snapper, we typically go for the unknown free agency "box" which may reveal... nothing at all. Philosophical pining and UHF quoting quotient has been met for the day.

(Also remember to check out this brilliant Ethan Albright spoof where he fights back against Madden for giving him a league-low 53 Player Rating in the game.)

Per the official site, Mark Brunell successfully completed surgery on his left (he's a lefty) shoulder. Interesting tidbit:

Brunell, who is left-handed, suffered the injury in Week 2 at Dallas. He was able to play through the injury for the next seven games, even setting an NFL single-game record for 22 consecutive pass completions Week 3 in Hosuton.
This almost scares me. No excuses, no QB controversy. JC is our guy.

Update [2007-1-9 10:40:12 by Skin Patrol]: All covered in this morning's Post. Mark Brunell will either take a pay cut or be shown the door; we don't pay a backup as much as he's set to make in 2007. Also:

Albright traditionally signs one-year deals for the veteran minimum, and did so again for 2007, according to a league source.
