Uniform Change

Since it looks as though there may be complete overhaul to the team at seasons end, why not change our uniforms as well. IMO, the Redskins throwbacks are the second best uniform to only the chargers power-blues'. I really enjoyed when they came out in those uniforms a few years ago, and I'd love if they went to the throwbacks as their new digs. I'd like to hear everyones thoughts on bringing back the burgundy spear helmet, and our throwback jersey,(or a new jersey design alltogether), as the new uniform.

Looks Like Hunter the Punter Out For Sunday

Ryan O'Halloran threw up a comment on the Blache piece in the Post saying Hunter Smith re-injured his groin. They are supposedly trying out new punters as we speak.

Cooley could have punted if his ankle wasn't banged up!

P.S. No Durant Brooks sightings yet.

Riggo or Blache...

who you gonna believe? First of all, which is being paid by Snyder and which isn't? Look at what has been done to the fans by the Redskins organization which is led by whom? The facts speak for themselves and the idea that someone with notoriety has come forward and blasted the organization and Snyder is a good thing. Snyder fired Frank Herzog thru Vinny Cerrato's pal who does the play by play on the radio for the games for being critical of Snyder. So, in summation, "dark heart" is more likely than not!

3-4 Defense

How would everyone feel in the "supposed" new coaching regime brought with them the 3-4 defense? I know Cower ran it in Pitt. I don't think Shannahan ran it in Denver. Gruden? I forgot. It could help bring a different look, and a much needed attitude change to an already good defense.

Anyways, I think we have some guys that could fit into that scheme nicely:

                                                                         Alaxander Haynesworth Jarmon

Need some help guys, going to the game next week.

Hey guys, two reason for doing this.

1) To take some heat off some of the in-house arguing (although Kevin and Ken have been doing good on that front themselves with the thought provoking articles the past couple of days).

2) Also, 'cuz I need genuine insight from people that have been going to the games.

Next week I'm going to the game (planning to be hammered FTR), and wanted to know what the best way to get out there and back was.

I know about the infamous traffic and have heard a lot of different ways about how to go about it. I can't remember who, but someone said something about a huge church that lets you park for $30 and basically you end up bypassing all traffic. Also, is the Metro a good way to get there? I do want to tailgate, but I don't have the patience for my wife's impatience with bad traffic.

Any and all ideas would be helpful. HTTR!!

Riggins slams Snyder, again, on Inside the NFL:

I just got done reading an article by Mike Florio on ProFootballtalk.com ( I know, I know), about a recent interview by Riggins on Inside the NFL! I don't have Showtime so I haven't got to see it but at seems as though Riggins could lead the Revolution! To be honest, I am not sure to make of it......I mean I like Riggo but he is a bit of a wild card. I love his candor but part of me always questions Riggins motives. I will copy and paste the article after the jump!

In one of the most scathing rebukes to date of Redskins owner Daniel Snyder by a former Redskins player, Hall of Fame running back John Riggins relentlessly targeted Snyder during an appearance on Showtime's Inside The NFL.

Via Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post, here's a taste of what Riggins had to say.

"[T]his is a bad guy that owns this team," Riggins said of Snyder. "I'll just tell you that upfront. Bad guy. And if the Commissioner is worried about potential new owners and saying some of these guys shouldn't apply, he might want to police his own inside guys."

Asked by host James Brown why Snyder is a "bad guy," Riggins elaborated.

"Because his business practices, I think. I don't want to say they are unethical, but I don't think it's a place, a climate that is created there where people can be successful. It's driven all by his ego and everything has to come from him. And I just don't think you can be successful in those situations and when you are dealing with someone with the mindset of a child and yet owns a franchise in the NFL. I think you have some problems there. . . .

"This person knows nothing about football, absolutely nothing," Riggins said. "I don't think they have a clue how a football team comes together, how it works. And yet they are the ones that are basically calling all the shots through a puppet, which is Vinny Cerrato. That is my take on it. . . . I speak for the fans because these are the people that paid my salary for all these years. They are the ones that need to know that this is a bad guy."

Cris Collinsworth then pointed out that there's a "fine line" between being a "bad guy" and a "bad G.M.," and Collinsworth asked Riggins whether he thinks Snyder is a "bad guy."

Said Riggins: "Let me put it to you this way, Cris, this person's heart is dark."

The Redskins declined comment to Steinberg.

A Project for you all, I think this will be interesting

In my time following the NFL and particuarly lately with the disaster that is our O-Line I have been giving a lot of thought to what positions really are the most important in the NFL, and where you need to focus your finite Cap Money if you want to Compete for a Superbowl, so I have devised a project that I need your help with, (by your help I mean I need you guys to do basically all of the work)

I want to look back at the last 20 Superbowl Teams (so the AFC and NFC champions) and go through the teams rating each starters ranking in the league for his position. SO for the Broncos SB winners for instance you would ahve Elway listed as the number 1,2 or 3 QB probably for that year, for the Ravens 2000 team you would probably have Ogden as the number 1 left Tackle

but here is the rub, all skill positions in particular have to be ranked relative to a "Leage Average Help position"

So your QB and RB have to have their League Ranking adjusted for their O-Lines effectiveness, so this year for instance Peterson very well may be the Best RB in Football and after factoring in his great O-Line you may still judge him to be the Best but you NEED TO FACTOR IT IN TO your rankings, same with WR's you need to factor in the play of the QB when ranking them, so Reggie Wayne may be a highly rated WR, but you cant rank him up top just on stats because you have to factor in the advantage he gets from having Peyton Manning throwing him the ball.

Anyway after we have done these rankings I want to look for a pattern and see if Championship teams do all share certain positions that have Better Than Average or Elite players, and even to see if there is a pattern where Championship Teams all have the same weakness, so it could be argued that wasting high picks on that position is a waste because it does not correlate to Championships.

This way all the arguments about what we need to draft next year can be resolved because we may find some suprising results, For Example and I doubt this will be the case BTW but we may find that an above average QB is nice, but is a luxury and not a neccesity, or we may find that an Elite Centre has been on the majority of Championship teams even though it is generalyl seen as the least important Line Spot

Any questions please let me know if I have not made myself clear, but I think this would be a very worthy exercise

Nickname needs to go

Washington should be ashamed of themselves. for many years season ticket holders have supported a team and franchise with the most racist nickname in the history of sport. The current ownership lives in the fifties where these derogatory names were often used by athletic departments and the average person on the street. Many schools saw no problem using offensive names to serve as mascots of their team. This was in an era before political correctness became popular in many of the nations universities. many have adopted name changes due to pressure from activist groups that were rightfully disgusted with nicknames as "Indians" and "Redman" representing their schools.

The name of the pro football team in Washington is a disgrace. The commissioner needs to take a stand and put more pressure on the organization in Washington to change the name of the franchise. I can't believe there has not been more political pressure on the team to change its name. It seems like nothing has been even talked about the disgusting nickname for the Washington football team for years. American Indians activists have been visibly silent since their super bowl protests when the Redskins played the Kansas City Chiefs. Both team names are offensive, but the redskin stands out particularly as racist. It is just plain wrong to still have this nickname in 2009. The owners in Washington could care less who their team hurts or what that term use to mean in American history.

If the arrogant owner Daniel Snydor of the Washington Redskins did what was right he would of changed the name of the team immediately. He can change the name of the team to the Washington Pigskins in honor of the fans and the game of football. Fans love to dress up as hogs in Washington and a football was at once time called pigskin. They then can retain some of the tradition of the name. Whatever they do the name "Redskin" needs to go along with their logo as many a college teams have done so.

Fred Davis, I like the sound of this

Got this off the Washington Post today

Though Davis, a second-round pick in the 2008 draft, had 78 yards and a touchdown after Cooley went down against Philadelphia, Davis knew he'd need to improve his pass-blocking. So he cancelled plans to fly home and instead called tight ends coach Scott Wachenheim, asking him if he'd remain in Ashburn during the bye week. The two met for 2 1/2 hours Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, putting in extra work to prepare Davis.

Really good signs dont you think, that after his best game as a Skin he didnt get a big head but instead looked hard at his weaknesses and tried to improve them, all off his own initiative too, I really like what I just read, I think Fred Davis could start converting some us to beleivers if this is not just empty rhetoric and he follows through with this attitude..

Good work Fred, I hope you have a blinder on Sunday

Ask The Falcoholic!

Hey, 'Skins fans!

Those of you who have long memories may remember when I first broke into SB Nation a few years back. Hogs Haven was a good friend of The Falcoholic in those days, and I still like to pop over here and give things a read from time to time. Blah blah blah.

But that's now why I'm here. I'm here because we're playing you guys this weekend, and you're likely burning with questions about the Atlanta Falcons. If that's not what you're burning with, please see a doctor. Please feel free to direct any and all questions about Matt Ryan, our close loss to the Saints or our fortunes in 2009 this way and I'll be happy to answer them.

Also, please Recommend this post so that it will remain up top for those who have questions all week long. Thanks, and here's to a great game!

Hall Returning Punts

The Post ran a story saying that Hall will now be seeing alot of time returning punts along with Moss and Randle El. Not sure how I feel about this one, i'm sure it's an improvement but there's also some risk. Why can't we get Devin Thomas back there, or how about Justin Tryon (Isn't he one of the fastest people in the league?)

Redskins QBs now with Saints

I was just wondering how lucky Chase Daniel and Mark Brunnel feel to be with the Saints and away from this mess. I couldn't be happier for them both. I have tried to stay a Jason Campbell fan since I saw him play at Auburn. It may be hard to judge him this year behind the line Vinny hired to protect him, but I am getting the idea that we have another Patrick Ramsey on our hands. One good thing about this season, I don't see teams running to snag him in free agency. Maybe he'll get one more chance behind what would have to be a better offensive line.

Lets be honest Ya'll!

Ok, heres the deal. Your right. He is not the worst QB in the game. However, with that said.

I dont think that he is a starter in a west coast offense (or at least thats what we are supposed to have). He would maybe do well if he had, oh i dont know, 8 - 9 seconds to make up his mind on where to throw it. We all know how realistic that is. dont we?

Im not gonna post some rediculous poll that unly limits answers to reflect good things to say about him.

Lets Compare him to other QBs in the game right now that dont even have as much talent on the team as we do.

Aaron Rodgers is going to be my example.

* Rodgers has the highest QB rating of 110.4% with this weeks game added Campbell has an 85%.

* He has been sacked 31 times to Campbell 20. (There goes the weak O line argument)

* He has only thrown 14 TDs to Campbell 8.

*Rodgers has only given up 2 INTs Campbell has 7.

*Rodgers has 4 fumbles Campbell has 8.

* They both have roughly the same Attempted and completed pass numbers.

* I watched Rodgers throw 2 TDs to a 3rd string TE lastnight that is actually a 2nd string LINE BACKER! We have Chris Cooley who has actually seen a game this year without a single touch (before the leg) because someone does not look at him.

What I want for you guys to do is tell me something that he does well as a QB.

Samuels-Peter King names a Hog

In all the turmoil about the offensive line everyone has noted that Chris Samuels has been placed on IR.

TORB-Directs the Reader to SI-Monday Morning QB

Samuels is a core Redskin:

Samuels was drafted by the Redskins third overall in 2000 to be their left tackle for a decade. He almost made it. He's started 141 of 150 games, playing through painful shoulder, knee, ankle, back and neck injuries. But now, having been advised he risks his long-term health if he continues to play with a neck injury, he'll sit the rest of the season. Many of his teammates think he's played his last game.

I followed Samuels in 2000 during the run-up to the draft and through training camp -- in part because SI wanted to do a you-are-there story on a top prospect as he prepared to leave the cocoon of college and enter the pressure of playing right away in the NFL, and in part because of the rise in importance of left tackles. Michael Lewis tells the tale of the value of a left tackle superbly in The Blind Side, and I credit him for seeing what the game has become. Tackle has joined quarterback and pass-rusher as the three most important cornerstone positions for NFL teams.

But as I followed Samuels, I saw not only a good player but also a compelling and conscientious person. The day before the draft, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Broadway, he twice turned away the housekeeper who wanted to make up the room. "It's OK,'' he said. "I got it.'' He'd already made his bed, tidied the room and straightened up the bathroom, hanging the towels neatly on the rack.

In training camp, Bruce Smith and Dana Stubblefield took it upon themselves to school the rook and make his life miserable on and off the field. He took the taunts and the hazing through mini-camps, but determined he wouldn't take it once the real practices started. It took just one practice for Samuels to fight back, taking Stubblefield on a wide rush and, when Stubblefield popped him in the forehead, Samuels cold-cocked him with a roundhouse right to the neck, just below the helmet. He knew as the cornerstone of the offensive line, he had to be a fighter and defend not only his turf but his peers'. He became one of the go-to guys on the team.

can you help a fellow 'Skins fan follow his team

As some of you who have read my whining posts may already know, I'm English and have been raised in Australia and consequently get to see very few Skins games and am stuck with listening to Internet Radio and reading about the team to get an idea of what is going on. Now the knowledge I gain from writers on this site and other NFL writing is invaluable but I would love to see more of the team for myself. In Australia we have woeful internet speeds so live streaming is not an option and I am on mobile broadband so it is too expensive to download games ($30 for 2GB). I was wondering, and i know this is a big ask, but I was wondering if anyone had any of our games from the last few years saved in digital form,

If so I would like to ask if I was willing to send you some money and a USB stick, if you could transfer the game or preferably games to the USB and send them back to me here in Sydney. I would be more than happy to send enough money to make it worth your while (though not too steep, i'm not a millionaire, hell, i'm not even a hundredaire at the moment) but yeah i'll send enough for you to take your girlfriends or wives, whatever, out for the night, to apologise for all the time you 'waste' on football!!!!!

I know its a big ask and unlikely but i would be very apprecitive if anyone can help me out,

And there is no need for any cracks about "why would you want to watch them again etc etc, i would just like to see for myself more of what goes on on the field

BTW, bad news on ESPN today, what team do you think has the toughest strength of schedule for the rest of Season, yep its your 2009 Washington Redskins, whose opponents the rest of the way have a combined 42-21 record

Cheers

2010 Draft - Offensive Line

I've never seen more of a debacle at O-line than we currently have here with the Washington Redskins. We've waited far too long to seriously address the O-line in the draft and it clearly shows. Free agent O-linemen are often used up old guys or injury prone, so I don't think that free agency is a good way to address this need. We need a group of young prospects who can grow and develop together. The only way to successfully accomplish this is to use every draft pick we have this year on Offensive Linemen.

I'm assuming that we'll have two picks in the top 37 this year (1st and 2nd round). We can definitely pick up two potential pro-bowl linemen with those two picks if we do our homework. Our next picks are then in the 4th, 5th and 7th rounds. It has been shown in the past that you can pick up some quality depth for the O-line and even some diamonds in the rough. That would be 5 young offensive linemen. You can then have a completely open competition in camp for the starting jobs. Competition for playing time brings out the best in NFL players. IF, we stick to this plan, then we should have a much improved offensive line next year and one that would only get better with time (like a fine wine). Then, once we have a youthful talented O-line we can aggressively fill in the skill positions through free agency or through future drafts. We can then draft a QB in the first round of the 2011 draft who would most likely thrive with a young O-line with a year of experience under their belts. Hell we could even draft a top notch young running back in 2011 if we so choose. It's time to start getting younger and clearly the biggest need for that is on the O-line.

MK and DT dont get JC treatment, Why???

Let me say off the bat here, that this is a GENUINE QUESTION, NOT A STATEMENT

I honestly do come to this site to feed off all of your knowledge so beleive me this is a question

Now I have a propensity to give JC thje benefit of the doubt, due to a few factors, his dignity in the face of disgraceful treatment by ownership thsi summer, the fact that he throws a beautiful spiral, his good feet, his low interception rate and mainly because of his O-Line, I just feel he has never been given a fair go behind a solid O-Line

However, we give JC a lot of leeway based on a poor o-line and ackowledge he has to get the ball out to quickly and under pressure due to the poor line, but we do not give Davis, Thomas and Kelly this same benefit, surely if JC is being rushed, that means they dont have as much time to finish their routes and get open, surely if JC is being hurried, he does not have as much time to go through his reads and look beyond Tana and see if THomas and Kelly are open

Basically my point is WR's live and die by their QB, QB's live and die by their O-line, so if the O-line is hurting Campbell then it is hurting them as well yet JC gets defended a lot on this site and in the press (and more than likely rightly so) yet poor Devin and Malcolm and even Fred do not get this same benefit of the doubt treatment

I hope what i Have written makes sense and look forward to the always sensible and informative response from the rest of you on this site

Pro Bowl Voting

So PRo Bowl voting is now open, and as much as I personally believe the best players being chosen by a popularity contest rather than a true talent evaluation sucks, and the fact that the game itself is not taken seriously is a real shame (check out State of Origin for real Representative level sport with passion and intensity, its Rugby LEague from Australia, 3 game series every year between Queensland and NSW two states in AUstralia, but I digress) anyway as I say not happy with the whole scene to be honest, but it is what it is and I feel (and I totally get that this is not an original sentiment and I am far from the first to think of it) I feel that people really need to get behind London Fletcher this year

Like a Chicago election, Vote early and Vote Often

Vote from your home PC, your mobile and your Work PC and try to get the dude in, hes a classy guy and always puts in, admittedly he is no Ray Lewis or Troy Polomalu but he makes a ton of tackles and realistically is there anyone else on our team who would be eligible on performace alone

I'm thinking maybe Big AL, but the contract has colured many peoples views against him so he is probably no hope

Is there anyone else, Landry?? Orakpo?? maybe now Zorn is not stopping him from being thrown the ball big bad Fred Davis will make a late run, but really is there anyone else, hard to think of anyone right now, but I throw it out there to the vastly more informed minds that populate this site to bring some names to my attention

but please Vote London,

Roughing the Passer

An Example of what is wrong with the NFL

A defender can be fined and even suspended and will definitly give up a penalty for hitting a QB low and bringing him to his knees

But an Owner gets no punishment for hitting an entire fan base with repeated low blows and bringing a once proud organisation to its knees!!!!

I suggest a complete reversal of this trend, allow Defenders to wallop QB's again, the main thing that made me fall in love with this game even as my Australian friends mocked me, and bring in a mercy rule where if a certain percentage of a teams fan base votes for it an owner can be forced to sell

or at least fine Snyder for every headline he causes that relates to Long Term Fans being sued, or Freedom of Speech being infringed upon
