What is Gibbs doing?

After Joe Gibbs' press conference monday it's hard to tell what he's thinking as far as his future with the team goes. Two people i find that usually have the most reliability in the NFL world have possibly completely different views as to what Gibbs was implying.

Adam Schefter from the NFL network who seems to get news before it actually hits the wires sometimes says this:

Gibbs has one year remaining on his contract. The feeling within the organization throughout the season was that he would return. But Gibbs did not sound convincing Monday.

He made it sound as if he and Snyder have plenty to discuss. Gibbs never has wanted to leave Snyder, who has treated him royally, in an unfair position. But Gibbs said he believes these Redskins are on the right path, with the right quarterback and the right personnel. If ever there were a time to walk away, this might be it.

Jason La Canfora who writes for the Washington Post and seems to sometimes have the inside track on these things says this:

Everyone I've spoken to thinks this is a bit of a negotiating process, and Joe doesn't want to say much until he gets something worked out with Daniel Snyder on an extension -- assuming they do get it worked out. I believe they will. They will have to work out extension for the coaching staff as well if Gibbs gets one, and also address the scouts. They've done this before in short order -- 2005 -- and could well do it again.

Regardless if you want him to comeback or not, do you think he will? Could he stay on in a different role like the GM? Maybe GW is promoted to HC especially after hearing of his possible interview for a Miami job and thus it would just make sense to do it now.

*not
The official site is reporting Gibbs is retiring as head coach and president.  He will remain on board as a "special adviser" to Dan Snyder.

Press conference is scheduled for today at 3 eastern.

This makes me a bit sad in a way, but deep down I think I know it's the right thing for Gibbsy to do at the right time.

Thanks for everything Joe.
