Todd Collins is the greatest NFC quarterback ever (this week)

Per the Official Site, Todd Collins was named the NFC Offensive player of the week. Todd Collins mixed together with "Offensive" and it works in the way we all want it to work. What a good story:

Collins entered the game for an injured Jason Campbell in the second quarter and led the team to a key victory. Collins completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns for a QB rating of 144.6.

Tuesday was filled with praise for Collins, a 13-year NFL veteran in his second season with the Redskins. After a weekend off from football, players returned en masse to Redskins Park on Tuesday ready to begin preparation for this week's game against the New York Giants.

He and his teammates will have a long week to prepare for a pretty serious 9-4 Giants team that's already beaten us once. It is win or go home time meaning Collins can't take a breather but must unleash his awesome 13 year veteran fury on another unsuspecting foe. But just for good measure we brought in a secret weapon, also per the Official Site:
With Jason Campbell mending from a knee injury suffered last week, the Redskins added depth to the quarterback position by signing first-year player Jason Fife to the practice squad.

To make room for Fife, the club released linebacker Tyson Smith from the practice squad.

The Jason Fife? Wikipedia says Jason's claim to fame was backing up Joey Harrington before he backed up Kellen Clemens at Oregon. And he played for the L.A. Gladiators. So, like, your move New York.

re
A "pretty serious GIants team"?

I beg to differ. Not so much.

Honestly, the NY media always thinks the Giants are going to go to the Super Bowl. The fact is, this is a mediocre team feasting on a mediocre division. When they play a decent team, they crumble.

To wit:

Sep 9    @Dallas     Lost 35-45
Sep 16    Green Bay     Lost 13-35
Sep 23    @Washington     Won 24-17
Sep 30    Philadelphia     Won 16-3
Oct 7    N.Y. Jets     Won 35-24
Oct 15    @Atlanta     Won 31-10
Oct 21    San Francisco     Won 33-15
Oct 28    @Miami (London)     Won 13-10
Week 9    BYE
Nov 11    Dallas     Lost 20-31
Nov 18    @Detroit     Won 16-10
Nov 25    Minnesota     Lost 17-41
Dec 2    @Chicago     Won 21-16
Dec 9    @Philadelphia     Won 16-13

BIG losses to ANY team with a record over .500, including Dallas (twice), Green Bay and, Minnesota, who tuned them up two weeks ago.

Their 9 wins come against not one team with a winning record. They are against Philly (5-8), Detroit (6-7), Chicago (5-8), Atlanta (3-10), the Jets (3-10) and San Francisco (3-10), Miami (0-13). And us, of course.

Gee, I wish we could have played against San Francisco and Atlants instead of oh, say, Buffalo and Tampa Bay.

The bottom line is, we were dominating the Giants in our game earlier this year before we had a complete and total collapse. That was an anomaly. That was an eminently winnable game. Fortunatey, the D has found its soul in recent weeks.

And the Giants barely squeaked by the Eagles last week. They haven't proven they can stop the running game, and Eli still sucks.

Bottom line: This game is ripe for the plucking. Our players just need to have confidence. They need to know how much better than the Giants they are. I don't care about Collins, or the fact that the game is on the road: as a New Yorker, I have been watching this Giants team all year, and they suck. They are a bumbling, innefficient team that has flashes of greatness with li-to-Buress, but most of the time can't establish anything consistent. They will lose the first weekend of the playoffs, no doubt.

And if we can't beat these guys, who are clearly no better than average, then we don't deserve to play in January.

amen to that!
Giants are completely overrated.  NYC just gets bored easily and they need some team to cling to because the Jets suck and the Mets collapsed.  When Eli plays good, they like him. When he plays bad, they act like he's Rex and on his way out.

and the funniest part? Those stupid Eli Manning watch ads. "Unstoppable... like Eli". hahaha. I literally laugh everytime that comes on. How did he EVER get a sponsorship??

and... I'll be at the game cheering on Collins and Co in the "rain/snow/wind" thats predicted.

I hope they are overrated
We've lost 5 out of last 6 there. They seem to have our number, with a few blowouts of those 5. Just always seems like our toughest game of the year is at the giants.

The records are what they are. The 4 losses they have might be to the best 3 teams in the NFC. Theyve managed a few blowouts of their wins, unlike our one. To win this game we'll have to have at least 4 people go out with injury, 2 of them starters, and 1 of the 4 has to be serious. The element of suprise which was Collins is no more, they have him on tape now.

I hope we win but with our best player on defense(miss you ST, and i hope Laron makes you proud) and arguably our best or most important player on offense not out there it will be a fight our guts out type victory if we get one.

This is certainly a winable game, would love to see them pull it out.

man
If y'all could win this game, that'd be huge. Winning on the road at the Meadowlands in December is no small task, no matter how flawed the Giants have been over the years.

A week 16 matchup with Minnesota at 7-7 would be really, really interesting.

Giants
I think the Skins will do a good job shutting them down, but their pass rush concerns me with your line and with Todd Collins back there. There may be a Mark Brunnell sighting this week if Collins doesnt get any protection. Scary huh?

Then again, Collins could just continue his improbable run to glory that includes 3 more player of the week awards plus multiple playoff victories :)

yup, yup...
Giants don't look too scary, and Eli really must be adopted.  My only concern is their pass rush against our line.  Other than that, I think Todd Collins will put up 250 yards, maybe even a tre for the first time this decade.  I think we will win the game if we blitz like we did against the Bears.  we didn't break any sack records, but the pressure took it's toll.  Most importantly, Al Saunders needs to be able to run his offense just like last game.  Aggressive, defense-on-their-heels kind of play.  Collins has the confidence needed to make the offense an intimidating factor.  Truth of the matter is, we wouldn't even care right now if Campbell had played the whole bears game-we would have lost.

Go Todd Collins!!!!

so therefore
we are still in the playoff picture...though we need the Aint's to do their thing.
