So, it looks like the Redskins are now behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the final wild card spot. A victim of Jameis Winston’s unwanted advances. Dang.
But don’t fret Hogs Haven brothers and sisters, as I have a multi-pronged approach outlining the Redskins path to a playoff birth. Whether or not the coaches take my advice is yet to be seen.
Feed Fat Rob
I don’t think I’m stating anything that’s not obvious here. When we run, we win. The numbers don’t lie. And the “we can’t run because we’re down” argument holds no water. None of the Redskins games, outside of Pittsburgh, have been so out of reach that the run was no longer an option. It will also keep our defense off the field, which brings me to my next point...
3rd Downs
Jesus Almighty peaches and cream could we not get a stop on Sunday? Something has to change on 3rd downs. What I think should happen is that we put Preston Smith, Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Murphy and Chris Baker on the line and blitz Su’a Cravens or Duke Ihenacho. The Cardinals blitzed everybody but Sheriff Joe Arpaio yesterday and it was extremely effective. Joe Barry, between Red Bulls, could take some notes on this.
Personnel Changes
I think it’s time for other guys to get snaps. Kendall Fuller needs to have a seat. Quinton Dunbar needs to take it. Will Blackmon might be out at safety due to injury...why not try Deshazor Everett? At least he’s got young legs.
And how about Martrell Spaight or Terence Garvin in for Will Compton? For someone who is so good at getting the Redskins in position, the Redskins sure do seem to not be in position a lot.
The defensive line at this point in the season is what it is. Not a lot to be done there.
Pray
Pray that Jordan Reed stays healthy for the last quarter of the season. He can single-handedly ruin opposing defenses. Pray that Trent is PISSED coming off his suspension and looks to take it out on whichever unlucky schmuck he chooses to use as a nut rag. Pray that the section of the playbook labeled ‘RUN’ doesn’t get lost again, for long periods of time. Pray that Tampa Bay and New York slip.
The Redskins no longer control their own destiny, but should they win out, they’ll almost certainly make it to the postseason.
