ROSTER MOVES: The #Redskins have waived LB Brandon Jenkins. OL Maurice Hurt has also passed physical and is back on active roster.

Brandon Jenkins was one of Mike Shanahan's last draft picks in Washington. He was touted as a 1st round talent who dropped to the 5th round due to the Lisfranc foot injury he suffered at Florida State. That potential was never realized in his rookie season. There have been some bright spots during OTAs/training camp, but the majority of the reports have him struggling and being OLB coach Brian Baker's favorite chew toy. His lack of special team's play played a big part in his lack of playing time during his rookie year, but he was also just not ready to play in the NFL yet.
With the addition of Trent Murphy in the 2nd round this year, the re-signing of Rob Jackson, and the addition of other competition at OLB, Jenkins seemed to have very slim chances of making the roster. He needed an amazing training camp and preseason and that just wasn't happening. Now the Redskins have decided to move on, giving him a chance to find another team early in the training camp season.
Maurice Hurt hasn't practiced with the team since 2012. He had a knee scope prior to last year's training camp, and was placed on the active PUP list. He remained on the PUP list going into the season, and was eventually placed on injured reserve, ending his year. Hurt is another player who is on the roster bubble fighting for a spot with a lot of competition, new and old, at his position. He did himself no favors when he showed up to training camp, and wasn't in football shape. This led the team to placing him on the Non-Football Injury(NFI) list. Now Hurt has passed his physical and he will have to compete with Mike McGlynn, Adam Gettis, Josh LeRibeus, Chris Chester, Spencer Long, and Shawn Lauvao at the guard position. Hurt also faces competition at the tackle position with Tom Compton and Morgan Moses clearly ahead of him on the depth chart.
