OK, sue me. I haven't had any communication with Steve or Mark about this post at all, but I think I might have a an interesting discussion point, and they are the heavy hitters here when it comes to roster building.
We have spent the last few months searching, reading about and doing our best to evaluate talent., and our different schools of thought have come to the forefront, particularly with the curious case of one Trent Murphy......
But I digress. We all judge on our own personal criteria and I am curious about what you guys think about this one....
The NFL announces it will add two NFL franchises by opening day 2016. Mark has full roster control of one team and Steve the other.
Here is the catch.
When building his team Mark is only allowed access to game tape and personal interviews with players, coaches whatever, but no numbers whatsoever; no 40 times, no game stats, no QBR, PFF, UFO, ETC.....nothing, just film and personal accounts through legwork.
Steve, on the other hand, is tasked with building a roster using only numbers, sheets and evaluations, but never gets to meet or speak to his players until they are on the team. No film, no awareness save the number sheet. Just feeding and looking at numbers......the Washington Algorhythms, if you will.
Who builds the better franchise?
