Jay Gruden on DeSean Jackson: ‘Wow’
"As soon as that happened it was ‘Wow’ for us," Gruden said on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Rich Gannon and Bruce Murray Monday afternoon. "Guys like that don’t come around very often. And when they do, you have to do your due diligence and you have to do whatever it takes to try to get the guy if you think he’s a fit. And we felt like he was a fit for us. "I can be honest and say I probably hadn't been to a voluntary workout in 4-5 years. In Pittsburgh, that was something as veterans [the organization] allowed us to do knowing that we would be prepared to play when [training camp] started. I played with Pro Bowlers, a Hall of Famer and All Pros who I never saw at voluntary workouts. "Also, this was a trip that {Jackson] had planned. I went to Disney World last week. Had Disney World fallen on this week - I didn't know I'd be part of the Washington Redskins [when making plans] - I still would have went there with my family. Nobody in the building was concerned. We were sitting down eating breakfast this morning [and] saw it on TV. Sitting down with [Brian Orakpo], sitting down with [Brandon] Meriweather, nobody said a word [about Jackson's absence]. It's not something we're concerned about. We're concerned about him being physically and mentally prepared to play football when training camp starts and we believe that he will. Nobody was saying these things about him when he had 82 receptions, 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns last year."
Williams believes changes on O-line eventually could ‘work out for the best’
"I don’t know what to make of it," said Williams, a two-time Pro Bowl selection. "We have to see how everything plays out when the pads get on and how everything meshes. But obviously, Kory is a more than capable center, and Shawn has played and proven he can play in this league. With us getting him, he was a priority in free agency."
