Khairi Fortt Must be The Pick in 5th!

I stand on the lonely side of the fence (forshadowing pun) when it comes to our 34th pick. I am not a fan of taking CK or MM with the 34th pick, or any OT for that matter. In my opinion, there is not an OT who will be available at the 34th pick who will be worth the 34th pick. My big board would rank as follows: Ryan Shazier>Kyle Fuller>Jason Verrett>Ra'Shede Hagemon>Dee Ford>Jimmie Ward>Austin Sefarian Jenkins> and finally CK. I am pretty confident, however, that Shazier will not be available at 34 and, sadly, that o'l Jay Jay B. Grood's will have more interest in fortifying the OL than building a defense that can clinch the division year after year.

I believe, however, we can all agree on one thing. The first 3 picks of the draft must be instant contributors (and not just on ST). Given the amount of holes and question marks on the defensive side of the ball, I think this is quite an attainable goal. It is my opinion, however, that the remaining 3 picks (hopefully 4) should either be high-risk high-reward talents (e.g. Colt Lyerla, Aaron Lynch, or Seantrel Henderson) or raw talents with a high-ceiling. Khairi Fortt is the embodiment of the the latter paradigm. He is a fast flowing rangy and aggressive inside linebacker who needs one more year to develop. He will be available in the 5th round and we would be remiss to pass on his talents. See for yourself (at 2.48 and 4.28 the dood straight hawks the rb).

Mock:

2nd: Kyle Fuller (CB)
3rd: Antonio Richardson (OT)
4th: Daniel McCullers (NT)
5th: Khairi Fortt (ILB)
6th: Colt Lyerla (TE)
7th: Nickoe Whitley (FS)
