The Washington Redskins have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Jackson, a second round draft pick in 2008 out of California, turned 27 last December and had six productive seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles until he was cut by the team this past Friday. During his time in Philadelphia, he developed a reputation for being electric yet sometimes temperamental, and reports had been circulating for some time that the team was fed up with his negative behavior.
Following a brief period this offseason of unsuccessfully attempting to trade him, rumors surfaced of Jackson having some ties to gang members and the Eagles finally just released him. Jackson has since completely denied any accusations of gang affiliations, and the Redskins obviously felt comfortable enough with the situation to bring him onto their roster.
For his career, he has 356 receptions, 6,117 yards and 32 touchdowns. The three-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2010, 2013) will now be able to play his former team twice a year and will join Washington's current receiving threats Pierre Garcon, Andre Roberts and tight end Jordan Reed. The addition of Jackson should immediately make the Redskins' offense more dynamic, and gives quarterback Robert Griffin III an explosive weapon in his arsenal. Terms of the agreement were not immediately disclosed, but it is reported to be a three year deal.
