At 6'3" 218 lbs Smith is a little on the lighter side for a linebacker but he could easily add 20 lbs to his frame and still be effective. Official combine time was 4.5. Has excellent instincts and is an excellent tackler. Some feel because of his weight that he should move to SS but I think he's a tweener SS/ILB. only thing that makes him a tweener is his weight and that can be easily fixed. He has everything you look for speed, instincts, tackling ability, strength at the point of attack. He is just so quick when recognizing the play and shooting the gap to meet the ball carrier. He's also a great special teamer.
I've watched all his games from Junior and Senior season and I can't find any real weaknesses besides being 218 lbs. He improved in coverage in his senior year as evidenced by his 3 INTs for a total of 147 yards. He was also the Seminoles leading tackler (90) and this with Christian at the ILB spot.
Weaknesses? Other than weight, there aren't many. His abilities opens up all sorts of possibilities with coverage. He can drop back to SS in some subpackages as well.
He will be a draft sleeper and will be an immediate contributor whether it be on special teams or defense. I love this kid and would be ecstatic to see him in a Redskin uniform.
The clips provided are from his Junior Season and the other is his Senior season. Junior season highlights his playmaking ability on special teams as well as on defense. Senior season highlights his improved coverage instincts and playmaking ability in coverage.
