Strengths: Christian Jones is the most versatile prospective ILB in this class. In 2011, Jones played the SAM in a 4-3. In 2012, he moved to WILL in the 4-3. Finally, last year he started off as an ILB in the 3-4 then transitioned outside as a pass rusher. Jones possess a rare combination of pass rush ability and elite coverage skill. Jones is the best cover LB in this class. If that wasn't enough, Jones is also a sure tackler. According to STATS Ice, he missed only 2 tackles in 2013 and had 0 broken tackles.
Weaknesses: Jones's instincts are average at best, often stalling and tapping his feet while he attempts to read offensive keys and blocking schemes. Some may call him a patient pursuer but to me he appears unsure at times. He relies heavily on his length and speed to recover on plays. Block shedding is another major weakness of his. His game is predicated on finesse, lacking power moves around blocks and big hits on ballcarriers. Poor showing at the combine.
Bottom Line: He will need to be coached up but he's a safe pick, and there's nothing wrong with that. Despite his read-react weaknesses, Jones could be just what the doctor ordered for many 3-4 teams. A cover ILB is a rare and coveted commodity, and that's what he is. Stick him on a TE and let your mind worry about something else.
Projected Round: 3rd
Highlight Reel: Favorite play is the last highlight on the reel. He drapes around backs and tight ends effectively
