I hate the term "Rebuild" in pro sports since it always entails many depressing seasons of losing. Once again, the Washington Redskins have a new head coach in Jay Gruden. I actually have high hopes that we can win with some solid additions to the team this offseason. However, I think that every year.
One thought that hit me was this…What if we could focus on making one major problem area a strength? Now, I’m not saying to ignore the other positions of need, but rather just revamping one area the most.
Just seems like every offseason is the same story, we cannot focus on a few areas of concern. Would it not be nice in 2015 offseason to say "Redskins are set at ____"? Cannot say this currently or any seasons that I can remember.
Here’s two fantasy scenarios:
1) FOCUS: Offensive Line
Imagine signing 2 solid OL in Free Agency, such as Anthony Collins (RT) and Alex Mack (C) to support the line with T. Williams (LT). Then, we don’t stop there (as we usually do). BAM!..in the Draft we land David Yankey (G/OT) and Mewhort (G). Then, we still sign a few more OL as undrafted free agents (UFA). Adding these to our current roster to compete with yougsters LeRibeus, Gettis, and Compton. Suddenly, a 2013 weakness could overnight become a strength for this team.
2) FOCUS: Defensive Secondary
(Imagine): The reports are flooding ESPN and NFL Network…The Washington Redskins have just sign FS Jarius Byrd and CB Aqib Talib. They resign D. Hall.
Draft day: The Redskins select S Ed Reynolds, CB Kyle Fuller, and CB Andre Hal
Adding these players with youngsters P. Thomas, Amerson, Crawford, and Rambo. Suddenly, we completely change our pass defense. The Eagles wouldn’t be so pass happy against us next season!
Just dreaming here, but it must cross your mind to have a weakness become a strength, especially with the money we have for free agency. How many more seasons must we complain about that horrible secondary anyway?
