Jay Gruden will be the Washington Redskins head coach, according to report

The Redskins have announced the successor to Mike Shanahan - former Bengals' Offensive Coordinator, Jay Gruden.

The Washington Redskins have reportedly made their decision on the next head coach and it will be Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, according to multiple reports.

Gruden is expected to be introduced as the Redskins next head coach on Thursday afternoon.

The Redskins were said to have 10-12 candidates for the job.

Background:

  • Bruce Allen and Jay Gruden have a close relationship dating back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gruden was an offensive assistant from 2002-2008.
  • Jim Haslett and Jay Gruden coached the Florida Tuskers together in 2009. (lost in championship)
  • Gruden was in UFL 2008-2010
  • Gruden was offensive coordinator for the Bengals from 2011 to present.
  • Jay Gruden had a stellar career in the Arena League (397-99 QB/INT ratio)
  • Gruden will be 47 this March.
