Redskins True Need

While contemplating what went wrong over the last 4 years under Shanahan, I keep thinking of one aspect that seems lacking. And please understand that I was not happy about Shanahan’s firing since he has rebuilt this team with younger and good character guys. I hate rebuilding because it brings bad memories since the Redskins usually rebuild every few (2 – 3) years.

Here’s what I believe is the Washington Redskins true need: "Playmakers"

Let me clarify. Sure Shanahan has built a solid roster. However, what game changing playmakers do we have (esp. via draft) like LeSean McCoy or DeSean Jackson? They are game changing players that make Eagles offense go. Without them, Chip Kelly’s offense would be ho-hum. Look at Danny Woodhead in San Diego, Demaryius Thomas of Denver, Jamaal Charles with the KC Chiefs, and the list go’s on. This is just a few offensive game breakers from around the league. Who on the Skin’s roster can be called a game-changer? Maybe Pierre Garcon? Alfred Morris is solid, but not exactly going to light-up the game with huge TD runs. RGIII, when he’s 100% healthy and not being caught by 300 lbs. defensive lineman.

The same goes for the defense. Where is our Jarius Byrd, or Eric Berry in the secondary (RIP S. Taylor)? What about Patrick Willis or J.D. Watts? Sure, some of these are rare talents even in the NFL. But, why is that for the Skins to get them, we always have to fork over huge money in Free Agency (as we will this off-season)? Other teams develop players from Rookies. And I am not bashing all of our drafts picks. Honestly, most were solid picks. But, that’s part of the problem; no chances on getting true PLAYMAKERS!

For the Redskins to change its image under a new coach; they must start keying primarily on Playmakers. There may be some high risk with high rewards. But, is the safe pick, always the best one? Sure, we still need some solid players in the trenches (OL especially). But, in the NFL, how often do we witness the difference in a win or lose an outstanding play or performance by a dominate player? Every weekend! Except for the 2013 Washington Redskins. Lackluster playmakers, equals 3 – 13 seasons.
