Randy Jordan Hired as Running Backs Coach

One more piece in the Jay Gruden coaching puzzle has been named.

The Redskins announced the hiring of Randy Jordan to replace the legendary running backs coach Bobby Turner tonight.  This comes as a slight surprise after reports surfaced last week that former Redskins RB Earnest Byner was being interviewed for the position.  Jordan also has past history with Bruce Allen.  He was a RB for the Raiders during Allen's time as GM there, and also played under Jon Gruden.

Randy Jordan has spent the last 2 years as the running backs coach for the University of North Carolina.  He previously held the same job at Texas A&M for 4 years, and at Nebraska for 4 years before that.  He started his coaching career as a special teams assistant for the Oakland Raiders.  Jordan coached current Redskins RB Roy Helu Jr during his freshman year at Nebraska.  He also coached Giovanni Bernard at UNC, who was the 2nd round pick last year for Jay Gruden's former team, the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bruce Allen and Jay Gruden have assembled a group of position and assistant coaches that have a lot of history together.  It remains to be seen if this will be a good thing for the future of the Redskins franchise.  There have not been any further position coaching job interviews, and no other coaching positions have been created.  Jay Gruden's coaching staff appears to be set for now.
