I just read in the Post that Bruce Allen says Skins are gonna "be active in free agency."
A certain degree of trepidation is appropriate, considering how utterly we've failed in the past when splurging on FAs (Fat Al, Randle El, Archuleta).
But given our dearth of picks, our talent-thin roster and considering that since Allen has arrived, we've scored on at least a few of our acquisitions (Garcon, Cofield, Wilson), there is some reason to be optimistic and excited.
*side note: Garcon should absolutely have been a pro-bowler this year, led the entire friggin' league in receptions!
Now that we are done with the cap-hit plague, there are some enticing FA options available, let's start with Defense...
Jarius Byrd - Safety
We to relegate Doughty to special ASAP! He shouldn't start for us, or anyone else for that matter, he is a good locker room guy and good depth player to keep around, but he simply has no business being a starter. Safety is a top priority for the Skins and Byrd is not only the best available, he is one of the best safeties in the league. Period. We should do whatever we can to bring him aboard and pair him with head-hunter Merriweather until Philip Thomas heals and learns the ropes.
Chris Harris - Corner
Has proven his worth as a quality starter on the Broncos the past couple seasons. Deangelo is still capable of matching up with any WR in the league, but its not consistently that way anymore - he's getting old and getting beat on too many big plays. He's ripe to be replaced at starter and assume nickleback duties should the Redskins even decide to bring him back (he is currently not under contract).
Michael Bennett - LB/DE
A talented athlete whose versatility the Skins desperately need at two critically deficient positions. Further, he comes from Seattle, and the hope would be he brings some of that winning culture and swagger with him. We could benefit greatly from his services.
