Here are a few plays that I feel the Washington Redskins should add to their playbook to keep throwing off NFL defenses. As teams try to find ways to stop the pistol and read-option plays, it could just open more opportunities for creativity.
Below is what I call "Sweep Fake – Delay WR Reverse." Imagine an ordinary pistol set. Griffin pitches to A. Morris and the blockers all block like normal for the sweep (left in this case). As the defense swarms to the left side of the field – the WR (could be A. Robinson, S. Moss, P. Garcon, etc.) sneaks out of the chaos. Morris pitches the ball to the WR on a delayed reverse. The RT and far WR (right side) should help contain any defenders.
Results: 15+ yard gain, or a TD
The next play is a spin-off from my first play. I call it "Sweep Fake – Option Delay WR Reverse." As you see below, there is a distinct difference in one aspect.
On this play, RGIII rolls out right as the reverse WR comes his way. It becomes an Option play with the WR and Griffin running down the sideline.
Results: 20+ yard gain, or a TD
