Star Power - Redskins Near Top of the NFL?

USA TODAY Sports

Are the Washington Redskins the most Star Studded team in the NFL?

Star Power is a growing trend in professional sports. James, Bosh and Wade made the Miami Heat sexy..............and good! Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg make the Nationals fun to watch. Tiger Woods made golf what it is today.

Young, charasimatic, energetic athletes make teams interesting. They also make other players around them better. When your teams becomes relavent and interesting because of Star Power, it can have positive effects on the city, fans, and franchise.

After years of mediocrity and no player to be called the Face of the Franchise, the Redskins fortunes have finally turned in just one short year. The drafting of Robert Griffin III instantly gave the Redskins three things they were missing for years: A very good young quarterback, a face of the franchise, and Star Power. These three thing helped the Redskins to once again become interesting; ...................and we also happened to win the NFC East in the process.

Now, Griffin may be the face of the franchise, and one of the biggest stars in the game today, but he's not the only Redskin with some Star Power.

Pierre Garcon - When Garcon is healthy, he's one of the more electrifying athletes at the wide receiver position in the league. He has the ability to turn a short pass into a long score from almost anywhere on the field. His absence was felt in the passing game when he was out with a toe injury last season, and when he returned, although not nearly at 100 percent, he added a different dimension to an already dangerous offense.

Trent Williams - You may think it is funny for me to list an offensive tackle under the heading "Star Power", but Trent Williams is deserving. He does exactly what the word means - makes those around him better, make others want to play with him, is young, athletic, a team leader, and one of the best players at his position in the NFL. Sure he's not the face of the franchise, but without him, the face would have no name.

Alfred Morris - Morris may not think he has Star Power, but look past the humble attitude, quite demeanor, and draft status, and you"ll see a player any team in the league would be proud to have. Morris leads by example, and in this day in age of the brash, attention-seeking athlete, he's a breath of fresh air. As RG3 so eloquently put it,..............you're my Terrell Davis!

Brian Orakpo - Hell yeah, defensive players have star power too! The Redskins were a different team defensively without Orakpo on the field last year. His presence at outside linebacker keeps offensive coordinators up all night. Not only is Orakpo a great young player, who is a pro bowler when healthy, but he's also a leader of our defense, and a face that's recognized around the NFL. His Star Power is even enough to land him on a few commercials!

Ryan Kerrigan - Kerrigan is a lunch pail guy, but even lunch pail guys can garner the respect of their teammates and piers amongst the league. Kerrigans youth, athleticism, attitude, and production add a bit of blue-collar Star Power that every team would love to have. He may not wind up on the newest Nike commercial, but his level of play earns immediate respect, and a place on this list.

DeAngelo Hall - Say what you want about his inconsistent play, but Hall is loaded with star power. He's brash, confident, charasimatic, a leader(in his own way), and when he's on his game, he's pretty damn good. A poor supporting cast at safety last season cast a negative light upon Hall, but even with Madiue Williams and Reed Doughty backing him up, Hall came up big when the team needed him the most. Feel free to disagree as much as you like, but DeAngelo Hall still has Star Power.

Any other players you feel should be on this list? Any who should be taken off? Who may be the next Redskin to make this list?

How do you feel the Redskins stack up against the rest of the league in terms of Star Power?

For our pole question, I will use a little Caliper Test metrics.
