Changing the Name, Logo, Mascot (for real)

By now, you are all aware that the D.C. City Council may make a push for the team name to be changed to Redtails. If this is true, it falls in line with so many other teams (particularly college teams) changing the mascot from a Native American to a bird that may or may not exist. The other thing that happens in times such as these: people get on message boards and hand out nickname suggestions they believe to be funny (poking fun at D.C.). Nine times out of ten the joke fails, and the suggestion is pointless as it will never be adopted anyway.

This is not a joke. The best name for the Redskins, should a new one have to be adopted, is Pigskins. The Washington Pigskins. The name means football...just football. Hogs Haven would not have to change its name. The fans could still be called the hogs and wear pig snouts. The Script R could become a scripts P. The logo could be a simple football with a W on it (unless Hogs Haven wanted to bargain for the rights to use their logo).

In the end, very little would change. Go Skins! sounds much better than Go Tails! "Did you watch the 'Skins Sunday?" is far better than "Did you watch the 'Tails Sunday?" There are too many jokes relating to the rear of one's body on the horizon should Redtails be the name. The Washington Pigskins makes so much more sense.
