The Redskins might get Eddie Royal after All?

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

So everybody remembers our near acquisition of Eddie Royal during last year's free agency. Royal would have made it the third free agent wide receiver the Skins signed on just the first day of free agency! But as it turned out, at the last second. he realized there was legit interest in him from other teams (surprising considering his lack of production). He ended up taking his talents to San Diego to play for the star studded Chargers featuring a superior coach and QB (oh wait...what). I can't blame him for wanting to move to Cali though, and obviously Goodell took half our cap the night before. Plus, it turned out to be a blessing because Moss would have surely been cut.

But anyway, Royal continued to be injured and unproductive last year as a receiver and kick returner. Now he's probably gonna get cut because it would save the Bolts some money which they need after the Ingram injury.

So I'm thinking we're gonna pounce on him because most of you know he was a beast with Shanny in Denver. His rookie year during Shanahan's last year before getting fired he had 91 catches for 980 yards and 5 TD's.

He will most likely come dirt cheap, doesn't have to make the team, and would have big time potential. He'll be 27 this year, has blazing speed, could replace Moss after this year, be our return man, and make our receiver position even more of a strength. It also wouldn't put to much pressure on Hank and A-Rob (or put more on them).

I'm clearly overly excited about this considering the overly long post, but what do you think? Interested? It's happening, I'm calling it.

Editor note: Kevin asked John Gennaro, lead Editor for Bolts from the Blue, about the likelihood of Royal getting cut:

It is a $3 million cap hit, but a savings of $1.5 mil against the cap and $3 mil in cash.

It's not probable he'll get cut, but there's a chance. The WR group ranks like this currently:

Malcom Floyd
Danario Alexander
Vincent Brown
Keenan Allen
Robert Meachem
Eddie Royal
Deon Butler
Mike Willie
Richard Goodman

You get the idea....he's in the middle of a crowded position group, so his job is not guaranteed. He also never really got healthy or into a rhythm last season, and McCoy was part of the brain-trust that let him walk in Denver.
