Redskins Put up a Fight in the Second Half, But Fall to Eagles: Eagles 24, Redskins 16

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Robert Griffin III was looked uncomfortable the entire game. The Offense was inept in the first half, but they put up a valiant effort in the second half. Alfred Morris has another monster day in the first half, but the 24-0 lead in the 3rd quarter caused the Redskins to mostly abandon the running game.

1st Quarter:

-Redskins win the Toss and elect to receive. Niles Paul returns the kick-off to the 19-yard line. Redskins first play results in Robert Griffin III throwing it away, but the Eagles are flagged for roughing the passer. The ball is knocked out and an Eagles defensive lineman recovers the fumble. 7:41 remains in the half.

-The Eagles offense drives down the field with big plays into Redskins territory. The Eagles offense does not get it done inside the red zone after a monster sack from London Fletcher. Redskins 0, Eagles 17. 3:51 remains in the half.

-Redskins start with the ball at their own 20-yard line after another touchback. After a long drive by the Redskins (Totally on Alfred Morris’ back), the Redskins are forced to punt. Punt is down at the 24-yard line with 41 seconds left in the half.

-The Redskins have put up a valiant drive. Robert Griffin III struggled all day, and he made one more crucial mistake on the last drive throwing an interception in the end zone. It should have been thrown away. Redskins 16, Eagles 24. End of the 4th quarter.

Important Game Notes:

-Accuracy: Robert Griffin III’s accuracy has been in question this season. He missed a wide-open Logan Paulsen that would have been a huge play on the Redskins first drive. You have to make that throw. He also missed a 4th and 1 play pass to Paulsen again. You cannot miss these throws. Even when the Redskins offense played better in the 4th quarter, Robert was still missing throws he needed to make.

-Pocket: The interior of the offensive line continues to struggle. Pressure up the middle is the solution to dealing with the Redskins passing plays. Everyone else in the league has noticed. Chris Chester struggled again in pass protection.

-Inability to pass: It is no secret the pocket is non-existent for Robert Griffin III. But where is the play action? Where are the boo legs? Why does Kyle keep calling obvious passing plays on 3rd down and ask Robert to stand in a pocket that is not there? These problems seemed fixed by the 4th quarter (or the Eagles defense was playing soft). Offensive inconsistencies continue to trouble the Redskins.

-Cheap Shots: The Eagles took a cheap shot at Robert Griffin III in the 3rd quarter after a dump off play on a 3rd and 16. Same old Eagles.
