Washington Bravehearts? Not so fast

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

A neighbor of Dan Snyder trademarked a name that some pegged to be a potential new moniker for the Washington Redskins. Team brass has since denied any connection between the Redskins and the trademark.

Another day, another rumor about the Redskins team name.

The source of the latest speculation comes from a TMZ report, which stated that Aris Mardirossian, a neighbor of Redskins owner Dan Snyder, registered a trademark for the name "Washington Bravehearts."

According to TMZ, the trademark application states that Mardirossian intends to use the name for "entertainment in the nature of football games."

Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie has since spoken out, denying any relationship between Snyder, Mardirossian, the Redskins and the "Bravehearts." Wyllie told Washingtonian and ESPN 980 plainly that "There is no connection between the trademark and the Washington Redskins."

In addition to proclaiming that the team's name will never change in May, Snyder had since sent a letter on Oct. 9 to Redskins season ticket holders defending that stance, but also expressing respect for the opinions of those who oppose it.

With that in mind, it looks like D.C. football fans can thankfully forget about replacing Chief Zee with a makeshift Mel Gibson in war paint.
