London Fletcher was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, as announced by the NFL on Thursday.
Despite playing with an ankle sprain, Fletcher turned-in his best month of the season, logging 51 tackles, three interceptions and a pair of sacks over the five-game span. Both of his sacks came in Week 17’s win-and-in showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
On the season, Fletcher recorded 139 tackles, which is the third-highest total during his time in Washington, and also added a career-high five interceptions to his impressive resume. His consecutive game streak of 240 is tied for most in the NFL with Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber.
The Redskins’ captain was also recently named a Pro Bowl alternate, and will make the trip to Hawaii if Novorro Bowman or Patrick Willis are unable to go.
Fletcher is the heart of a defense that got gashed for yards this season, but came up with timely turnovers and sacks in key situations. During the Redskins’ impressive seven-game winning streak, the defense recorded 15 sacks and forced 18 turnovers.
