Redskins 2013 and Mock Draft 1.0 (including senior bowl standouts)

After recently finding Hogs Haven, I'm happy to post my point of view and improve on it in the coming months of the off-season. I'll be narrowing it down after the combine and FA period and I appreciate the feedback.

After one of the most memorable seasons in recent Redskins memory we go into the off season with hope but also caution/dread concerning RG3. This year we get 7 draft picks excluding the 1st and an extra 5th. In my opinion there is a lot of work to be done but the Redskins are trending to the top of the NFC East with the momentum gained this season.

Of our free agents the top 7 we should resign are:

1.) Darrell Young (perfect FB for the zone read and great back field threat. Not to mention the best blocker we have had in a while)

2.) Fred Davis (with the injury it will dent the price so I think we will be keep him, he was on track for a breakout year)

3.) Rob Jackson (with the possibility of Fletcher gone we need LB depth)

4.) Lorenzo Alexander (Pro bowl? need I say more?)

5.) Kory Lichtensteiger (again he fit's Shanny's blocking scheme, why do you thought he brought him to the Redskins?)

6.) Rex Grossman (Solid for a backup considering RG3 is out and Cousins should be the starter game 1, don’t give me this Tebow crap)

7.) Sav Rocca ( Until Forbath he was and still is the most consistent on Special Teams)

For our free agency we'll explore the defensive back market and at least try to sign one DB (my bet is more likely a big S FA and a competition CB) and a RT for competition for our draft pick/ vet to tie the line together.

Possible FA targets given our cap situation:

S:

J. Byrd (BUF) (More a prayer than an expected result)

C. Clemons (MIA)

P. Chung (NE)

C. Lynch (SD)

R. Mundy (PIT)

CB:

L. McKelvin (BUF)

D.Cox (JAC)

C.Williams (BAL)

C. Munnerlyn (CAR)

M. Jenkins(DAL)

RT:

Andre Smith (CIN) (again a prayer)

Branden Albert (KC)

Andre Smith (NYG)

Winston Justice (IND)

Barry Richardson (STL)

We won’t have the money to go after a WR so we'll develop in the draft because Hankerson isn’t completely panning out but he may turn it around. Morgan could be a solid no. 2 option give or take a year of full health. We all saw how Garcon was excellent this year even with the foot injury. Granted the cap hit of 18 million is going to hurt BAD and we are currently over cap by 4 million, we'll restructure ALOT of contracts. I believe Hall who is owed 7.5 mil (great season ending effort) won’t renegotiate and we'll let him go BUT if he does he would be a solid option going forward at least for one more year. Worst case we keep him as a stop gap. I think we will develop Minnefield (if he can get healthy), Crawford, and Pugh (especially as KR). We'll let go of J. Brown (cant stay healthy), M. Williams, C.Griffin, B.Banks, T. Jackson, J. Black, and C.Baker among others.

The options in each round will go with the best player available mentality and my mock draft are as follows:

If a top tier safety is available we'll swap 2nd and 4th round position picks.

Personally I believe the biggest needs are:

CB, RT, FS, WR (development), ILB (depth) ,G (depth), FB/TE (depending on who we keep in free agency).

2nd:

CB: Xavier Rhoades (FSU), David Amerson (NC State, could be converted to FS), Jordan Poyer (OSU), Desmond Trufant (Washington)

S: Bacarri Rambo (Georgia), T.J. McDonald (USC), Robert Lester (Alabama)

3rd:

RT: Brennan Williams (UNC), Kyle Long (Oregon), Xavier Nixon (Florida), Oday Aboushi (Virginia)

4th:

FS: Phillip Thomas (Fresno State), D.J. Swearinger (SC), Duke Williams (Nevada), Josh Evans (Florida)

CB: Sanders Commings (Georgia), Rod Sweeting (GT), D.W. Webb (W&M)

5th:

WR: Marcus Davis (VT), Marquess Wilson (W-State), Conner Vernon (Duke), Marquees Goodwin (Texas)

5th:

ILB: (got to get something for that Haynesworth trade from NE)

Kiko Alonso(Oregon), Bruce Taylor (VT), Nico Johnson(Alabama), Michael Mauti (PState)

6th:

G: Omoregie Uzzi (G Tech), James Wilson (Florida), David Quessenberry (SJ State), and Blaize Foltz (TCU)

7th:

FB: Zach Line(SMU), Braden Wilson (Kansas State)

TE:Michael William (Alabama), Kyler Reed(Nebraska)

Ideally my perfect draft would be: Rhoades, Williams, Thomas, Davis, Alonso, Uzzi, and Line.

But I think we will end up with: Amerson, Long, Thomas, Davis, Johnson, Wilson, and Reed.

This is my just my opinion and what do I know? I’m just an avid fan with a hopefully a objective/successful opinion.
