Two key players to the Redskins offense are FAs. - Patrick McDermott
A look at the Redskins unrestricted and restricted free agents entering the off-season. Who will stay and go?
Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan will again have some tough decisions to make this off-season. With the $18 million cap penalty hindering them for a second straight year, the Redskins will need to get creative. Teams guard their actual cap room number very closely, but ESPN is reporting the Redskins are currently $4 million over the cap. Where will the Redskins free up some money? Cutting bait with some expensive vets.
My best guess is the following players will be cut or restructured (stats via thehogs.net):
- Jammal Brown - 2013 cap hit ($5 million) - cut
- London Fletcher - 2013 cap hit ($6.2 million) - cut/resign
- DeAngelo Hall - 2013 cap hit ($8.3 million) - cut/restructure
- Brandon Meriweather - 2013 cap hit ($3.5 million) - cut
- Santana Moss - 2013 cap hit ($6.3 million) - cut/resign
- Trent Williams - 2013 cap hit ($6.6) - restructure
- Roy Helu - 2013 cap hit ($670K) - cut
- Dezmon Briscoe - 2013 cap hit ($575K) - cut
When I look at the UFA/RFA list below, two things stand out:
- All three Tight Ends are free agents: Davis, Paulsen, Cooley. Paulsen will be retained a RFA, but what about Fred?
- Both Right Tackles are Unrestricted Free Agents.

It's hard to imagine Chris will be back next season for the Redskins. He had 1 reception and was mostly used for blocking. It's unfortunate RGIII's injury took the stage in what should have been a proper farewell to Chris. |

|
TE |
This is a tricky one. Surely coming off an Achilles tear, his demand will be down. The Redskins will try and retain Fred I'd think. |

P |
Sav is having surgery for meniscus tears and said he'd like to punt another 2-3 years. I'd think the Redskins move on. |

OT |
Should receive offer from Redskins. |

OG |
Should receive offer from Redskins. |

DL |
Kedric continually shows up to work and plays his role. |

OLB |
Rob Jackson |
This is a very tricky situation since Jackson had a great season and would be a backup to Orakpo again? |
|
LB |
Lorenzo finally got Pro Bowl recognition for Special Teams and showed improvement at LB. These are the type of players as an owner and Coach one needs to reward. |
|
|
LB |
Saw limited action in the CLE and PHI games. |
|

LB |

CB |
Played better than we thought coming into the season. Served 4-game suspension. |
|
|
SS |
Williams' inconsistent play made him a target. I can't imagine the Redskins re-sign him. |
|
|
FS |
Jackson's 1-year suspension from the NFL runs into training camp next year. |
Restricted Free Agents
|
DL |
Chris Baker |
Contributed in every game this year. Surely the Redskins will tender him. |
|
TE |
Proved to be a quality backup in Fred Davis' spot. A must keep. |
|
|
FB |
Young has been a quality Fullback for the Redskins. I can't see any scenario he's not on the team next year. |
|
|
WR |
Banks was benched the final 5 games of the season including Seattle. In 2012, he had 49 total returns, 0 TDs, 4 fumbles (none lost). Buh bye. |
|
|
OL |
If Mike Shanahan liked him enough to use his one IR designation for return on him, surely he will keep him for another year. |
