For those expecting great things from Robert Griffin III in his rookie year don't let those Yards Per Attempt stats dismay you. The 49ers did the same thing last year, keeping it short and going long allowing the quarterback to protect the ball and become more confortable.
For reference, the Colts opened the whole field to Andrew Luck and because of that he's thrown four interceptions and an a fumble. With Robert, the Shanahan's have basically removed the middle passing game bring defenses up and rocking them deep.
