Bacon - The Connection Between Cincy & The Skins

Stay connected for news and updates

Before the 1978 NFL draft, the Redskins shipped their first round draft pick (#12 overall) to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for Coy Bacon and Lemar Parrish.

The Skins nabbed two Pro-Bowl caliber defensive players for a pick that resulted in the Bengals selecting the underwhelming Charles Alexander (RB - LSU). I guess they weren't satisfied with their Buckeye tandem of Pete Johnson and Archie Griffin.

Anyways, I remember Bacon being an absolute sack machine for the Jack Pardee led Skins (15 sacks in 1979 and 11 sacks in 1980). While Parrish maitained his Pro Bowl form (nine picks in 1979, 7 picks in 1980) and collected his share of picks.

Though those Redskin teams just missed the playoffs. Bacon and Parrish were key contributors for some pretty decent teams and I'll always look back on that trade fondly, as Bacon and Parrish for that pick was one of the best trades the Skins have made.

Hail!
