Today while I was heading to Rockville, I was listening to Holden and @funnydanny. They were venting about the refs and letting listeners do the same. They got on the topic of the Ravens/Eagles game and then played a clip from their sister station in Philly. In this Interview LeSean McCoy was talking about the poor officiating and how the Saints fan/ref got pulled from calling a game. He also talked about how Ray Lewis was able to intimidate one of the refs. Then he dropped this bombshell....
“They’re like fans, kind of though,” McCoy said. “I’ll be honest, they’re like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, like ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy,’ ahhh, what?!”
Is it a big deal? I am sure the league will say that it's not. Did this ref rule in favor of the Eagles and his starting fantasy running back? Maybe, maybe not. Is it a possibility that he did? Certainly.
WARNING: Hyperbole ahead!
In my opinion this speaks to the integrity of the game. If this ref is potentially doing this, is it far fetched to say others are? Is it absurd to think that maybe another ref is betting on games? It wouldn't be the first time this happened in professional sports. Is it absurd to think that if a ref is calling a game differently to benefit his fantasy roster that another ref is calling a game differently because some Vegas type offered him a small fortune?
Indeed it is absurd but so was the officiating in most of these games.
