Laron Landry starting the season

on the PUP list. Well played NY Jets, well played....

The Jets had hoped Landry would be a replacement for Jim Leonhard, who had knee surgery and was not re-signed by the Jets. But Landry was held out of OTAs because of a heel problem he said was unrelated to his Achilles issues.

Landry can be removed from the PUP list at any time, but if he is still sidelined by the season opener, he would have to miss at least the first six games. New York signed Yeremiah Bell in case Landry was unable to recover, but losing Landry for any length of time would be a significant blow. Landry, 27, was limited to nine games, all as a starter, for Washington in 2010, and he played in eight games last season, again all in a starting role.
