Since there isn’t a lot of Redskins news going on right now…well, except for the Redskins losing their $36 million cap penalty case.
So, I’ll be taking a look at what’s going on with the other NFC East teams, starting today with the Dream Team Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles were the heavy favorite to win the NFC East last year, after Mike Vick had a career resurgence in 2010 and they went on a Redskin-esque free agents spending spree. Philly landed Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Jason Babin, Steve Smith and Ronnie Brown all in the lockout-shortened 2011 free agency period.
The Eagles seemed to be in a true "win-now" mode, but they never quite got their chemistry right, had a slow start and finished with an 8-8 season.
Once again, Reid and company have had a fairly busy spring. They re-signed Redskins’ pain in the ass receiver DeSean Jackson and locked up LeSean McCoy. Oh, and Asante Samuel got traded for a seventh rounder.
The Eagles’ offseason was not without its problems however. Star left tackle Jason Peters was lost for the season after injuring his Achilles while using a Roll-A-Bout machine. Epic fail.
So, aside from not winning a Superbowl again, what is the lookout for the Eagles in 2012?
Well, let’s start with the draft.
The Eagles drafted very well, at least according to draftards. They chose Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox in the first round. He’ll probably be a bust.
Reid FINALLY drafted a linebacker, choosing Mychal Kendricks out of California. My expert analysis…the Eagles linebackers will still be garbage and a half.
Perhaps the most surprising pick was Nick Foles, the quarterback from Arizona with the horrible haircut. But what makes the pick so shocking is that the media didn’t take notice of the quite obvious "quarterback controversy." I mean, when Washington drafted Kirk Cousins in the fourth round, ESPN couldn’t churn out the manufactured bullshit non-stories fast enough.
Eagles player to make a leap in 2012: Casey Matthews. Casey looked a little lost out there and seemed to get bullied his rookie season. Look for Matthews to go from horrible to marginally terrible.
Eagles player to disappoint in 2012: DeSean Jackson. I just hate this guy.
Best Eagles draft pick: Brandon Boykin.
Number of Eagles Superbowl trophies after the 2012 season: 0
Number of weeks before "Fire Andy" begins: 2
Enjoy another great season Eagles!
