So UDFA kicked off immediately following the draft and I personally like to keep my eye on it as more than a few contributors are usually found here...maybe not stars, but contributors in the general sense.
I have a few questions in hopes of jump starting the UDFA discussion:
1) Would you rather have Chase Keenum or Kellen Moore in UDFA over Cousins in the 4th? I am not onf of the Cousins draft pick haters, of which there are many, but it just seems like we are taking a 4th round flyer on Cousins when we could take a UDFA flyer on Keenum or Moore.
2) Who the heck does Phillip Thomas play for? The Eagles or the Skins? I have heard reports from Eagles/NFC Beast blogger, Jimmy K, that the Eagles signed the UDFA and then released him the same day, which begs a number of questions. Now, Shefty is reporting that he is, in fact, an Eagle still. I am not sure what to make of all of this, but I do hope/wish he ends up coming to Skins TC.... i think he would be a contributor in our weak secondary...especially after Merriweather decided to do his thing and fuck his chances up of ever making a comeback.
3) Did anyone catch the E:60 spot immediately following their story on RGIII about Kenny Turner, RB out of NMSU? My roommate (die-hard Steelers fan and traditionalist) and i did. If you missed it, here is the backstory as quickly as possible: Chris Johnson and Kenny Turner are from the same town, same HS, and are/were best friends on and off the field. These two guys competed and pushed eachother growing up and both were stand-outs on the field. Even though they shared a backfield as a tandem RB set, Turner was known more as an overall football talent whereas CJ2K was thought of as a fast, explosive RB. Where they differed was in their paths off the field. At 18, Turner was sentenced to 5yrs in prison for engaging in an ongoing shootout that he happened upon with CJ2K. Turner took the fall, CJ took the ball (see what i did there?). The two stayed close over those 5 years and when Turner was released, CJ was in the League already and starting to turn heads. So, Turner set out to try and catch up to Chris Johnson, now of the Titans in the NFL. Turner started at Junior College and immediately impacted his team. He gained the attention of New Mexico State University where he spent two seasons. Last season, Turner ran 219 times for 1074 yards (4.9 ypc) and 10 TDs, earning several accolades in his conference. Now, Turner has entered the draft and is looking for redemption. Obviously, this kid comes from a rough town and has some serious ghosts in his closet, but after watching the E:60 special and reading about thig kid...I can not write him off that easily. Here is an article about his path to the draft
So, even with his colorful past, would you be willing to sign this kid and let him come to camp with the idea that if he were to fall out of line just once, he would be gone? I for one, would love to see what this kid becomes. He might be one of the hungriest players out there for redemption/success. I say give the kid a shot.
