Virginia cornerback Chase Minnifield, who was not selected in the NFL Draft, agreed to a contract with the Washington Redskins
on Saturday night, the school announced.
The 5-foot-10, 183-pound Minnifield was considered a potential mid-round pick, but he had arthroscopic surgery on one of his knees in January that prevented him from running at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in February. When he ran at the Cavaliers’ pro day in March, his times were significantly slower, and the knee swelled again.
He earned all-ACC first-team honors after making 50 tackles and intercepting three passes in 12 games, missing only the Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Auburn with the knee injury.
Minnifield will only be guaranteed a spot in the Redskins’ rookie mini-camp, which opens Friday. His father, Frank, played nine years for Cleveland and was selected to the Pro Bowl four times
Show him some love since he is no doubt bummed about not being drafted after projecting as high as the second round.
Most people don't know his twitter handle but it's @Chaseminnifield
