The sky is falling...

In New Orleans. Should it be here?

I was curious what the Saints' fan base perception was of the bounty gate penalties. I am not talking about the coach being suspended, but about the loss of two #2 draft picks.

Well, basically at the CSC (Canal Street Chronicles) SB Nation Saints fan site, there are a lot of posters that believe that is that the loss of two #2s will severely handicap the team for years and only great coaching, player selection, blah, blah, blah will allow the Saints to continue being a contender in the next 4 years. This from a team with Drew Brees at QB.

While I find this a bit extreme, it did raise the obvious question: if the fan base of a team that turned the ball over 5 times in the NFC title game and still almost won is freaked out about losing their #2 pick this year and next, shouldn't Redskin nation feel the same way about losing not just this year's #2, but also the next two years' #1 picks? This, combined with salary cap gate, is just going to be very, very difficult to overcome, particularly in the short term (read: Shanahan era). I actually looked because I thought I was overly freaked out about the loss of picks, since I believe that the draft is far and away the only way to build an effective team. I certainly hope that RG3 becomes Drew Brees-like, but even if he does on day one, aren't we way behind the Saints (and many other teams) and facing a huge double handicap (cap, missing two #1s) for the next few years?
