This is just a quick little post that I wanted to throw out to get the general opinion on. By now, we all know LaRon Landry is an unrestricted free agent. The Redskins chose to franchise tag Fred Davis over him, and his future with the team is in serious doubt. What I want to know from you guys is, where do you think he will end up? Here's a few scenario's I could potentially see playing out.
The Redskins. Unlikely, I know. But when he's healthy, he has the talent to be a top five safety in the NFL. At this point in the rebuild, I'm not so sure it's a good idea to let a guy with his talent walk. I remember at the beginning of last season everyone felt he was going to be the Troy Polamalu of this defense. If he's bulked up, we could toy with the idea of moving him down to inside linebacker. He'd still have great run stopping ability and would have the athleticism to rush the passer or sit in a zone underneath when needed.
He signs with an NFC East team. This is what Parks thinks is happening. The Cowboys could certainly use with secondary help, The Eagles could upgrade and the Giants use a heavy rotation of safeties. They've had a first hand look at what Landry can do, having had to play him twice a year since he entered the league. You can just see Landry joining one of these teams and tearing up the Redskins for the next five years...
The New Orleans Saints. Landry was born in Louisiana and went to college at LSU. Maybe he might like the idea of going back home. However, the Saints don't have a lot of cap room to work with and more important things to worry about (Drew Brees, Carl Nicks, Robert Meachem, Marques Colston).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa have big needs across their secondary (and team in general...). More importantly, they have major cap room to work with. They are rumored to have up to $60million in cap space, and a big offer might just tempt Landry down to Tampa Bay.
The Detroit Lions. The Lions are on the edge of being very competitive. Add a safety like Landry to that defense and it makes them that much more competitive in a very strong division. But like the Saints, they don't have a lot of cap room to work with.
The Denver Broncos. Denver's defense was a big factor in why Tebow-mania went on that crazy run which saw them reach the play-offs after having been early contenders for Andrew Luck. But Brian Dawkins isn't getting any younger, and Landry would help sure up what could be a big need for Denver this off-season.
So what do you think? I'm sure I've missed some potential suitors on this list. Remember when you vote that the question is what team you think he will sign for, not where you want him to land.
