Redskins Use Franchise Tag on Fred Davis

Stay connected for news and updates

Per ESPN980 the Redskins have officially used their franchise tag on tight end, Fred Davis. The fifth year player is coming off a career year registering nearly 800 yards and three touchdowns. Davis sat out the last four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The franchise tag for tight ends this season is expected to be about $5.5 million.

The Redskins use of the franchise tag on Davis may spell the end for former first round draft pick Laron Landry. Many NFL experts thought the Redskins would exercise their franchise tag on Landry or send him packing. There is still a chance Landry could accept a reasonable one-year deal, but we'll have to wait until March to see what transpires.
