Via the official twitter of your Washington Redskins, cornerback Bryon Westbrook is now an unrestricted free agent.
Checked on status of restricted FA Byron Westbrook. He was not tendered a contract by March 13 so he is now an unrestricted FA. #Redskins

The Westbrook release comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the Redskins lack of depth at the corner position. But it also comes in the wake of signing Cedric Griffin and the visit of Aaron Ross. (I - UkRedskin - personally am still pulling for Steelers corner William Gay, but that's just me).
The Redskins have also announced that tight end Fred Davis has signed his franchise tender.
#Redskins to announce that TE Fred Davis has signed his one-year franchise tender. He will be with Redskins for 2012 season.

This news comes as no surprise, as ESPN980's Chris Russell explains after the jump.
Fred told me the night he was suspended officially by the @NFL that he realized he would take a 1 yr deal, prove it, sign long term 4 cash.

Good to see that Fred knows that he has to earn his right to a long term contract and redeem himself in the eyes of his teammates.
More news as and when we get it.
