Acquiring RG3 Does More For Washington Than Just Upgrade QB

Can you remember the last time the Redskins had a good QB? Not one that simply managed the game and didn't lose it for you, nor one with a rocket arm hitting everything that moves. No, a winner. A QB that not only wants to win, but can win, and make everyone around him a winner. RG3 is unlike any QB the Redskins have had, at least as long as I can remember. Yes, we gave away half of the franchise to get him, and some of you are very unhappy about it. Yet, I think we will get more than just a great QB with that bold move, we will attract free agents as well. Here are a few reasons why I believe trading up will net more than one player:

  • Look at Philadelphia. Yeh, I know the dream team didn't work out, but many free agents were drawn to the Eagles, because of Mike Vick.
  • Money alone draws some of the worst players. Albert Haynesworth, case in point. With a good QB at the helm we might be able to draw players that care about winning as much as their paycheck.
  • Leadership on the field. When Peyton Manning became available every team gave consideration. Even teams with a decent QB, why? Leadership on the field. Some QB's can deliver the ball and call the plays, but a few can actually lead the team. I think RG3 is one of those guys.
So with one step of faith, we got much better at the QB position, increased the odds of free agent interest, changed culture, and provided leadership on the field. I am stoked!
