Latest Peyton Manning Rumors For Every NFL Team

How close to reality is this?

By my estimation, the Dolphins are in first place, the 49ers are out of the running, Cards are very unlikely, and the Redskins are a mixed bag.

Latest News

Kravitz: Manning not "throwing like an NFL quarterback yet" | PFT
"I know some of the people that have seen him throw," Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz said Tuesday on the Tony Kornheiser show on 980 ESPN. "They say he’s not throwing like an NFL quarterback yet. That doesn’t mean he never will. This thing is going to take down. Structurally, he’s sound. Structurally, he can take a hit."

Report: Manning working out at Duke | National Football Post
That Manning would go to Duke to work out and recover from his neck surgery is not that big of a surprise since Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe was his offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee. Cutcliffe was also head coach at Ole Miss when Eli Manning quarterbacked the Rebels.

Cardinals____________________

Twitter / @AdamSchefter: Let the speculation begin: ...
Cardinals hired Frank Reich, Peyton Manning's QB coach the past six years in Indianapolis, as their QB coach.

ESPN insider: Money could be sticking point with Cardinals, Manning - ArizonaSports.com
John Clayton told Arizona Sports 620 that Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill would not pay for two quarterbacks in two years.

Dolphins____________________

Peyton Manning Rumored To Be Eyeing Miami Dolphins As Team On Short List - SB Nation Arizona
Manning and his wife own a condo on South Beach and a source said they'd love to relocate to South Florida if the fit is right. A second source confirmed Manning's interest in the Dolphins. Playing for the Dolphins would allow Manning to remain in the AFC, and the Colts are on Miami's schedule next season, which is an added bonus.

Redskins________________________________

Pro Bowl 2009: Manning lauds Mike Shanahan - The Denver Post
"I would be hard-pressed to find a better offensive mind than Mike Shanahan," Manning said. (Note, this was before Manning got to play with Jim Caldwell).

Star-divide

Twitter / @ChrisWesseling: Marshall Faulk on Peyton Manning...
Marshall Faulk on Peyton Manning to Redskins: Shanahan is too much of a "control freak" to allow Peyton to "run his offense, do his thing."

Colts_____________________

Source: Peyton will play in 2012, probably not for Colts | ProFootballTalk
Tony Dungy spoke with owner Jim Irsay last Thursday night and said that Irsay seemed to be under a lot of stress regarding the question of whether to keep or cut Peyton.

49ers______________________

49′ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Says Alex Smith Their QB in 2012 " NFL Gridiron Gab
"We’re all in lockstep as an organization that Alex Smith is our guy," said head coach Jim Harbaugh. "It’s well-documented. You saw the way he played this year. (He is a) tremendous leader on our football team."

More Redskins______________

Lack of talent could hurt Redskins’ chances of landing Peyton Manning - The Insider - The Washington Post
The Redskins are about $30 million under the salary cap, so they definitely have cash to throw Manning’s way. But how attractive a destination is Washington?

Joe Gibbs on Peyton Manning and the Redskins - DC Sports Bog - The Washington Post
" Here’s the deal, I think he would be a fit with anybody," Gibbs said. "But here’s what I think — this is just my advice, I’m the fan now — I think what you need to install with him is just what he did in Indy. It needs to be that offense. "I think if somebody takes him and tries to put him in a West Coast offense, throwing this or throwing that, I think the scheme that they had fit him to a T. They say he was there for hours and hours and hours with the coaches. And basically what it was, he would audible out of those packages. I guess my point, whoever gets him, you’re gonna get a great player. He can play anywhere. But I think it would be to that team’s advantage to make sure they’re putting in that same offense."

Theismann: Peyton to Redskins "a horrific idea"
"It’s not a good idea, it’s not a bad idea -- it’s a horrific idea. "It would be one of the poorest things that we could do as a franchise. Are we gonna go find another guy for just a couple of years again? Haven’t we done this before? Haven’t we seen this act before? And by the way, if you get Peyton Manning, don’t you have a concern about protecting him? Don’t you have a concern about who he throws the football to?"

Joh Keim: Eyeing the QBs: Peyton Manning | Washington Examiner
The fact that his neck is fine is not the point; it’s all about the arm and there’s no guarantee that it will return to what it was. So there’s a definite risk.

CSN Washington Video: Charley Casserly
Charley Casserly thinks Orton is an upgrade and Manning is worth a shot for Redskins.

Dolphins: $100 wins $250
Redskins: $100 wins $300
Colts: $100 wins $400
Jets: $100 wins $500

forehead, not entire head

I’ll say it again, I’ll be shocked if he ends up somewhere other than Miami or Arizona.

I wonder

if Peyton comes here, will we conform to his wishes? Like if he wants Saturday, or other players.

by 2up2down on Feb 8, 2012 10:08 PM EST reply actions

Reggie Wayne, probably.

But that wouldn’t be a horrible signing anyhow. He’s better than Stallworth. I doubt Saturday would be in the cards, but I wouldn’t mind an upgrade at C in the draft or FA. PManning’s center has to be smart more than anything. If I had to choose, I’d upgrade the G positions before C.

If the Cards sign Reggie Wayne...that'll be really interesting.

I still think MIA is the favorite. He has a house there.

I could live

with bringing in Saturday and Wayne. Even though Saturday is 36(?), I think he would be an upgrade to Monty (who I would part ways with) and we could draft a C such as molk to be Saturday’s eventual replacement. Wayne is on the downside of his career as well, but I think he still has something left in the tank. He did catch 75 balls and had 900+ yds this year, and imo is slightly better than Moss or Gaffney at this point.

Why would Skins part way with a quality Center/Guard…he’d at least be a great backup role.

Monty

was supposedly our highest rated lineman when Shanny did his reviews after the season.

would be interested

were you saw that, but if its true, I think it says more about our line then Monty

PFF also graded him as our best OL and the best C in the NFC East

I know the pro football focus need to be taken with a pinch of salt but it wouldn’t make much sense to let him go. He’s a solid starter and great backup option.

by PJ_21 on Feb 9, 2012 10:29 AM EST up reply actions

huh wierd

For some reason my post here and below just showed the headline, until I hit refresh.. In any event, I dont think Monty is a quality C/G, he is 29 and a fa. Chester, Licht as all very similiar IMO opinion so I would not keep all 3.

I dont have high expectations for Steigs coming off ACL and MCL tears.

I don't know his status

But yes, I would agree with that if he is not on track to fully recover it would make keeping Monty more relevant

What race?

The race to get as far away from Peyton as possible?

Sounds like the Dolphins are in the lead

I can’t see Peyton choosing us with our horrible OL (yeah, I know, some folks think it’s not so bad but I disagree – we’ve got 1 solid OL, 3 career backups and a walking injury) plus I can’t see him wanting to take orders from Kyle.

by aFan4Life on Feb 9, 2012 8:58 AM EST reply actions

Peyton, Kyle, and Mike would all agree on how the offense is run before he signs anything. Of course, when the offense is stagnant and losses piles up…cue the circus music.

I think the phins are

in the lead as well. We are behind them, the colts and retirement, but we would be slightly ahead of the cards, chiefs, and browns. I dont think San Fran and the Jets will pursue.

I agree but I think it's funny that the 49ers and Jets won't pursue him

Both those teams are just a decent QB away from a SB and yet they are both going to stick with what they’ve got – crazy!

by aFan4Life on Feb 9, 2012 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

I think Harbough likes Smith, and has invested time building up his confidence and fixing him. The Jets are stuck with Sanchez because of his contract. I believe he has a pretty hefty guaranteed contract (they are also stuck with Holmes’ contract). In addition, Sanchez is still young, so I think want to give him another year or two to try and fix him. I could see the Jets going after Weeden in the draft or signing a free agent such as Jason Campbell.
